Fortunately there aren't that many, but for the few that are hatin' on PM:
Anyone who is at Coachella on Friday and decides not to see this show is a fuckin' idiot.
Even if you do not like him or his music, you'd be a dumb-ass to miss this show.
Fact is, Beatles and McCartney have influenced any post-Beatle band you've ever liked in one way or another. This may very well be the last chance to see Beatles -and McCartney- songs being authentically played live. And definitely the last chance to experience this at Coachella.
So, don't be ignorant, and be part of history instead.

Even though I will be seeing Paul McCartney, not everyone likes The Beatles or Paul McCartney and I think it would be kind of stupid to miss something they liked for something they did not want to see. Also, why would you complain about less of a crowd for someone you like, it seems like most people would want this.

This makes zero sense. Why would people go to a show they wouldn't enjoy at all?

There will be a major crowd for McCartney no matter how you cut it. To each their own in terms of what music you are into, but i do agree that missing an artist who is one of the most important people in the history of music itself wouldn't be the most advisable things i could think of.

That reasoning is ludicrous to me. I love the Beatles, and will be there for McCartney. But for people who have paid their money to go to Coachella, why would they ever want to sacrifice 2-2.5 hours of that time to see someone where
a. They have no interest in the music
b. They don't like them as a person (as the original poster implied).

But see, I also have this attitude about Leonard Cohen. while he is no McCartney, he is a legend and someone who i may never have another shot to see. while I may like music from other younger artists like Franz or Oberst more, i know i will most likely have other chances to see them in my life. This is my shot at Cohen.

That's what I was implying. Why would you even call someone a dumb-ass for skipping someone they don't even care to see. I'm not paying money to see Paul. If I wanted to just see him, I'd attend a solo date(I wouldn't waste my money on just him anyways, it's not worth it to me). But while he's there...sure, I might as well listen and enjoy a few of my favorite Beatles songs since this will probably be my only chance to do so.

My thoughts as well. Cohen's current tour is really expensive too. I'm not dropping $80 to see him. So Coachella is it, and I've enjoyed what I've heard from him so far. And McCartney = Beatles, that's how I'm looking at it.

Like boarder said, show up the last half hour, more than likely his encore set will have those songs. Just check his set-lists from his other shows.

I'm almost forty. I've been to thousands of shows. Seen everybody from Ratatat to Daft Punk to McCartney. A seasoned concert goer must be aware that certain live shows defy expectations. The youngins last year who were bagging on Roger Waters (mostly) admitted to eating humble pie after his show. They were witness to (let the flaming begin) the blue print for Radiohead's music. If some other farty classic rocker like Elton John or Billy Joel were playing, I'd skip it. McCartney does not fit in this camp. He will kick ass.

Wow, how convincing that is. I grew up with the Beatles and I won't be there. I'm looking forward to maybe Crystal Method, or I'll be at the Do-lab avoiding those PM melodies with those f-ing stupid lyrics. Some of us old timers just don't forgive PM for being so apolitical when his other band members (JL and GH) were taking big stands for peace and social change. Watch out. Last year I thought I could hang in the Do-Lab while Prince was on stage. But they had the Do-Lab music stopped while he was performing. I hope they don't do that again this year. So I just ended up hangin out underneath the crazy cube of trippy glowing lights between the Sahara and Mojave.

Everyone claims the beatles did so much for music and i will admit they did something new no one else was doing. In all honesty though they just did what was ment to be done, they helped music evolve which it would have done with or without them. Music is constantly evolving and constantly changing and to say they did something special and spectacular is just stupid in my opinion. Flaming begins now.

Fact is, Beatles and McCartney have influenced any post-Beatle band you've ever liked in one way or another. This may very well be the last chance to see Beatles -and McCartney- songs being authentically played live. And definitely the last chance to experience this at Coachella.
Yawn. This has been said so so many times and while it is true it does not mean it's going to make me enjoy their music any more than I already do. Yeah, I will probably catch PM's show. Do i care enough to get up close? No. Will i walk out on someone else that i like more to catch "history?" Absolutely not. Why do something if you don't get enjoyment out of it? Do you want me to go buy an ancient video game system and play that instead of my 360 just because it had a lot to do with the development of the current gaming systems? Probably a bad analogy but you get the point. Have fun at PM but if there is a better Sahara act i'm gonna be grooooovin'

I almost raved instead of seeing Roger Waters last year, I'm so fucking glad I didn't. That guy is right, humble pie for sure, I remember posting "who the fuck is Roger Waters" when the lineup came out and now his set is one of the best things I've ever seen with my own two eyes. I don't know if McCartney will be like that but it seems ridiculous to see anybody else when one of the guys who was in the Beatles is playing a half mile away. To each their own though.
Roger Waters was amazing last year, but that has nothing to do with McCartney. Yes, i see the parallel, but if the Beatles don't rock your boat then why sail in that water?

because even if the music sucks (it won't, I'm sure mccartney knows a talented musician or two) it will be more of a spectacle than anything else going on that night? I've definitely listened to Crystal Method more than the Beatles but I'm sure Paul McCartney's show will be better and I'll see Crystal Method at a club next time they roll through my town for $30 anyway.
I'm not really trying to change your mind, I'm just explaining that as someone who really doesn't care about the Beatles I'm still not gonna be anywhere but the main stage on Friday night.

Nothing of note will be playing against Paul M. Remember who was playing against Prince last year? Enter Shikari and Above and Beyond..who saw those 2 acts pray tell? I expect the outdoor and the gobi to be shut down for this.
Above & Beyond was actually quite full (i know, i'm surprised too)...

Those McCartney posters are pretty cool.
A big factor in me seeing Paul McCartney (aside from the obvious fact that I love the Beatles) is that a great ticket for him on his last tour was 250, first row face value. And those were getting scalped for 4 figures. So fiscally it makes sense to see him at a place like Coachella as well

Who the hell knows that crystal method will be playing at the same time as PM? Chances are nobody will...
It's hard to see every legend because most legends die before they become legends, and that's part of the point. But if you're paying $90 (for Fri) to be at a place where a legend is playing, and you willingly decide NOT to see him/her, then yes you are retarded.
If you've seen him before that's another story. If you check it out for a bit and don't like it then at least you experienced it.
If it was Dylan, the Stones, or Bowie, same deal. Living legends that you probably might not get a chance to see again.
But, if you really want to 'hum' along to Crystal Method instead -assuming they play simultaneously- then there's no excuse my son...

I will not be missing Paul McCartney, as I grew up on the Beatles and enjoy some of his solo work. Missing a legendary act may turn into a regret for some people later on in life, but to each his or her own. People like what they like, for whatever reason. Music festivals are awesome, because there is diversity and the chance to explore new bands or genres, legendary or not. McCartney is part of the "real" Coachella, just the same as any act on the outdoor stage or in the tents. Go if you want to, see something else if you hate him, whatever.

Such strange logic... I'll be at McCartney's set for sure, but someone being a "legend" should not keep you from seeing something else, should you enjoy it more.
What's the point of wasting time on an act you don't enjoy? So you can brag to your friends years from now? It might just be me, but I would find more value in spending my time on something I like, and not something liked by everyone else. Credibility be damned.
Now, if I wasn't familiar with "the Legend"'s work, checking out their live show would definitely be in my interest. Live shows are generally much more powerful than what you hear on the records. But when I have two artists I'm familiar with playing at the same time, the obvious choice to me would be to see the one I appreciate more, not the one that has a bigger reputation.
Basically to me it boils down to the obvious: do your research. And come festival time, see what you like. But don't brand somebody a "dumb-ass" just because they don't share the same tastes you do.

in 06 you had to miss depeche mode to get a good spot for daft punk
and scissor sisters put on a killer show during tool
in 07 gogol bordello's legendary show was against bjork
lcd soundsystem during red hot chili peppers
and to a degree the black keys and cornelius played during the headliners
in 08 fatboy slim during jack johnson
and although i didnt see them, im sure simian mobile disco gave waters a run for his money
Daft Punk was one of the most amazing shows I have ever witnessed....after their super long hiatus I could give a shit about Depressed Mode regardless.
The Tool show was awesome...who are these scissor sisters? cannot compare
One more thing....Fatboy Slim sucked last year, GIGANTIC disappointment. If you've ever heard his live at creamfields, you would know where I am coming from...but i still watched it all hoping for a miraculous turn aroud...the only thing good about it was the first 2 minutes (willy wonka)
and finally....John Lennon WAS the Beatles, but in his steed I will take Paul since the Beatles are and will be an influence to everything we ever here....ever

Ok dude, you read a book. That means "John Lennon WAS the Beatles"? I don't see how you finding John to be an admirable person (which is highly debatable) has any bearing on the artistic contribution of the Beatles. John Lennon alone did not make the Beatles what they were, plain and simple. They would not have become what they became if not for the contributions of both John and Paul, and to a lesser extent George.
The idea of John Lennon being the only Beatle that mattered has long been a hipster cliche and it is and always has been completely ridiculous. Sorry if I was rude and hurt your feelings, but what you said was dumb. Thanks for the points.

btw what I meant to say is John Lennon WAS the Beatles as opposed to Paul because he founded the group (orig. Quarrymen) and hesitantly brought Paul in. Also I think (hope) most people would agree that his contribution/songs > Paul...by far.

Alright man, I agree it does have a strong hipster cliche...and I fucken hate hipsters...but Lennon, in my eye's....was the beatles...Paul contributed a lot, just not the overwhelming majority of what I feel made the Beatles great...He just doesn't have the soul that I feel Lennon did... Yes I read a book and yes it was subjective, but when I, personally look at the facts along with what I've read...all signs point to Lennon...he said everything controversial..."we're bigger than jesus"....just look at imagine... it was ballsy and completely ahead of it's time.

That is fine. Let him believe what he wants to believe. The Beatles were John and Paul. Simple as that. Harrison too and Ringo was really just a stand in. I used to think that John was the experimental one, until I found out that the music to Tomorrow Never Knows was actually done by Paul. Who'd thought that one huh? They were good together because they kept each others bad qualities in check. John keep Paul sharp without the fluffliness of his solo work and Paul gave John those beautiful melodies. Paul was the driver and John was the dreamer (or slacker depending on how you look at it. John never even tuned his own guitar! and would always get George or Paul to do it).

Well, Cynthia Lennon also claims that John hit her, but she may just be trying to grab attention. Also, it's not uncommon for battered women to have mostly great things to say about the men who hit them, it means nothing. In the end he still beat a woman. Did he change? Maybe (there are conflicting reports and it's hard to know who to believe. Some people say that "stay at home dad" thing he did with Sean was actually a cover up for the fact that he was so heavily into heroin that he couldn't function), but it doesn't change the bad things he did.

***Even though this reply might suggest otherwise, just remember, I don't hate you.
...but I'll see whoever the fuck I wanna see, thank you very much. I don't need some old-time, faggy-ass, fart-knockin born-again hobo to tell me about what and where music comes from. It sounds like you've bottled your desires into a poorly-documented state of gullibility, assimilating yourself through convenience rather than intelligence...and now here you are wanting to preach your point-of-view, wearing all but your pants...and what a shocker at that! I can't believe you had the "balls" or "Beatles" (as I will call it today) to take this approach.
I mean seriously, who the fuck are you to say any of that?! To say they've "...influenced any post-Beatle band..." is NOT unheard of, but ridiculous coming from you... In addition to this non-evidential claim (which could have been conveyed at least in the slightest), you've falsely vindicated all those not and/or planning not to attend. Rhetorically speaking: Ask yourself if it makes sense for one to eat shit, even though they don't want to. Clearly, you will answer that with a 'yes', given the context of which you've displayed this fanatically-oblivious thread. If you think Sir Paul admires his fans to ridicule non-fans simply because of personal tastes and 'historical' value (if you will), or for any reason for that matter, then this reply could spiral further into a seemingly endless debate... More so, I would definitely want to know if Sir Paul would agree with you or not, so in turn I wouldn't waste my time by attending. Yet, I'm not a fanatic unlike you, whereas what Paul DOESN'T say can't hurt him. With that said...
...I'll give you a crumpled "...fucking-dumb-ass-idiot-FIST" and throw it in your squid-lipped face!!! I mean really...how much of a fan do you think you are? I'm pretty confident that I could outwit you on any Beatle topic, so it makes me wonder what kind of person are you to lash against those opposing in music taste? Also, if you want history...then go make it yourself! People don't need invitations to events that come optional and opinionated. So, instead of wandering aimlessly with your silly pointless antics, and feeding off the scraps of something that has already been made known as "Beatle Mania", you should inquire of some good old common sense. If you want to relive a past, almost half a century old, then do it without thinking it's what everyone else needs to do too. No one wants to ride your g.^.y train, especially if the destination is to your local outhouse. The Beatle Depot is always an option for those who are eligible to ride.
I might thank you--but I won't--for the simple fact that at least now I know somewhere in the crowd of McCartney on Friday there will be a genuine idiot roaming the fields, munching anxiously on their finger-tips, sobbing heedlessly as if Christ were returning 'early' (lmao), and screaming in high-pitches that even a dolphin would question! Your world is yours alone, and I question how that might be working out for you, because I know it doesn't end at the next stop.
P.S.~ For those who weren't planning on attending PM...how many of them do you think read your thread and replied to self with, "he's absolutely right, I AM a '...fucking...dumb-ass...idiot...'; I'd better change my M.O." And when you are done calculating your numbers...when you have totaled the massiveness of 'your' attendees to the Beatle Depot...when you have figured out who's wearing pink and who's wearing blue...then I want you to look down and wonder what it would be like if you had a penis. Then, that's when I imagine...
...BAM!!! *I kick you in the "beatles"* It would be interesting to see what your reaction would be...because all I see in return is a silly face, with a silly smile, ignorant of what just happened to him. Even in my personal scenarios you prevail to be the ignorant annoying one.
P.P.S.~ If you've been wondering about the Penis-envy comment...well, it gets confusing in that your displacement of said issue is compensated by trying to insert your own life into a predominantly feminist void (PFV), where you've fallen target towards neglect and companionship. The PFV relates to the Beatle Mania, and the abundant neglect you've suffered during this time has caused you grief, and you have no clue as to why.
If you are over 50 yrs. of age, then you suffer from a societal neglect...if you're younger than 50, then I think you have assimilated yourself into a contemporary convenience, and all that mentioned above applies w/o doubt, which in other words: YOU SHOULD SLAP THAT SILLY TONGUE OF YOURS ALL OVER SIR PAUL'S LIGHT SABER and thank him for just giving you the opportunity.
I'd watch out on displaying your mental excerpts, because this world is growing in activists and radicals, and you never know when you reach a bad seed. There might be a similarity between us, in that we like to get our feet wet for debate...the difference is, I like to use water as my reference; not some fecal impurity.

I'm in constant search of free-minded, critical thinkers and so on...
P.S.~ ...if your comment was on the latter side, then thank you still, for it seemingly is still a compliment.

anyone who skips is a fucking genius!
for a few reasons:
1- won't waste many minutes of their life
2- won't get stuck in getting out of parking lot
3- doesn't blow for liking wackaul!

I meant it as a compliment to your writing style. Check out Kerouac's "On the Road", and read Allen Ginsberg's poem "Howl". I think you will dig their work. They were two precursors to all that Coachella is, or all that it should be, anyway.

Please, people, do not miss McCartney. I just know some of the moments during his set will be as fondly remembered as Daft Punk, Prince, Pixies, Waters, Radiohead, etc. Any act that conflicts with him can be seen elsewhere for $20 this year.

Truth. Good McCartney tickets go for 250 dollars a pop

I agree. I'm not the hugest fan of McCartney but i see it as my only shot at getting as close to a Beatle as possible. And i'm definitely not pay 200+ to see him on his own...He'll probably conflict with Girl Talk, and im fine with skipping most of that.

-- Christopher Hawthorne Harrison's star draws a crowd
Paul McCartney topped the star-studded turnout Tuesday in Hollywood for the unveiling of a Walk of Fame star for his former Fab Four bandmate George Harrison at a ceremony that also drew such celebrity friends and admirers as Tom Hanks, Tom Petty, Eric Idle, Jeff Lynne, Joe Walsh, T Bone Burnett and Harrison's widow, Olivia, and their son, Dhani.
"Hare Krishna" was all Dhani Harrison had to say following alternately touching and humorous tributes from his mother, Idle and Hanks as well as L.A. City Councilman Tom LeBonge.
McCartney wasn't among the scheduled speakers, and when he hopped up to the microphone after taking part in a round of photo snaps with the assembled guests in front of the freshly minted star, it had been shut off. He simply shouted "Thank you!" to the hundreds of fans who spilled out into Vine Street in front of the Capitol Records tower, where Harrison's star now sits near those of the Beatles and John Lennon.
In conjunction with the star ceremony, Capitol-EMI Records announced that a new compilation of Harrison's post-Beatles recordings will be released on June 16, spanning the different labels he recorded for before his death in 2001. "Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison" will also touch on his Beatles legacy with three of his Fab Four songs -- "Something," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Here Comes the Sun" -- represented in live recordings from the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh charity event he spearheaded.
