dope idea for sure :) my only thing is i like to cram my bag with as many bottles as i can at the end of the night so i don't get stuck at a stage without water.
frozen pilgrim
03-27-2009, 02:59 PM
I can't wait to buy the bottles. I'm totally getting one of each.
motherfuckin pimp-ass stainless steel coachella bottle, and buying one gets you free cold water all weekend!
like...
my water/gatorade budget for 3 days is like $80. this is amazing.
it's one of the only things I could have even thought of doing to improve the fest, and they've done it!
fuck guys, this year we get campers-only music until 4 AM, and a brand new water program!
kitt kat
03-27-2009, 03:01 PM
yeah, i was hoping for the 10-for-10 again this year so i didn't have to pay to be hydrated.....
but i end up spending at least $50 on liquid alone...so it's better to just splurge for the $25 bottle, get a cool souvenir, save the animals of the world and shit...and get unlimited water.
frozen pilgrim
03-27-2009, 03:01 PM
a thought occurs:
if I spend $30 on 3 bottles, there should be no reason why I can't fill them all at once.
3x24oz should last a while. that's like 5 1/2 regular bottles.
and I have no qualms at all spending $30 on some pimp coachella gear
edit:
my plan is to get two plastic ones and one stainless steel.
PlayaDelWes
03-27-2009, 03:02 PM
Sounds cool. Will there still be plastic bottles? I'm not sure how I feel about carrying around a hard bottle all day and night.
chairmenmeow47
03-27-2009, 03:03 PM
i can't believe spending $80 for water when you can just buy a couple and fill your bottles for free at the fountains. mind boggling.

did anyone notice the way "coachella" was spelt out on the black text bottle?
"COA-Chella."

This is an excellent development.
frozen pilgrim
03-27-2009, 03:03 PM
yeah, for sure they'll be selling water like usual. this is meant to reduce, not replace. people still also need gatorade (get those electrolytes, people!)
chairmenmeow47

what's the part about not leaving the beer area with a full container? hopefully they won't be checking bags, cause i'm not leaving my bottles of water outside the beer garden just to drink.

I know. I hauled cases of my own around and also tried filling at fountains in 07, but in the end it was just way easier to knuckle down and buy a new bottle each time. also, there's never a shortage of thirsty hippies looking for free empties.
this, on the other hand, is worth the trouble. totally worth it.

in other words, you cant leave the beer garden with the bottles filled. so fill them not in the beer garden.

FINALLY. Nice find, and great idea. I've been wanting to (legally) bring in empty containers for years.
The potential problem with this though is they may make you dump out your filled, sealed water bottles more this year then last year. I guess we were lucky to get those bottles in last year.

"Hey, Fleet Foxes start in about 20 minutes, are you coming?"
"Hold on. I'm about 60 people back in line to fill up my 24oz, 25 dollar water bottle. I'll be there later".
Correct me if i seem off here..
chairmenmeow47
03-27-2009, 03:13 PM
yeah, i totally understand not wanting people to take out alcohol, i'd just hate to see people dumping out bottles of water to get beer. i'm curious if they'll be doing bag checks exiting the beer gardens or if they'll just be having you take the lids off if it's in your hand.

it would be fine as long as they have refill stations right outside the beer gardens. would suck if i have to empty it out and trek far just to fill it up again.

Why would you have to dump it out to get beer? Says no exiting beer gardens with filled containers... could take one in, drink your booze, finish your water, and leave? All the better to stay hydrated with.
frozen pilgrim
03-27-2009, 03:16 PM
I would hope and imagine that the filling stations will be at least somewhat close in number to the water/gatorade vendors.
I'm sure they've thought this through. this isn't the regular fountains, those are still around separately

true, i just tend to have multiple bottles in my bag. i meant more that they'd have to dump to leave the garden, sorry. you'd think a smell test would be sufficient, like in high school :p

technically that's never been allowed, we;ve just all had some nice luck with security (myself included). I have a feeling that with the free/cheap refills they'll crack down a bit more.

okay:
3 water fountains. free. no cost.
refill stations. 1 dollar.
water fountain =/= refill station.
The water you get for free when you have a Coachella bottle is the same as the water you get when you pay one dollar for the refill. Filtered water that is cold and not from a fountain. The fountains are a separate thing. Here's the thing that says the thing, located right at the bottom of the thing when you click the thing you click to see the thing:
There are 3 refill locations located inside the venue, along with another in camping. You can purchase containers at each of these locations along with the merchandise tent and the general store in camping. Please see the map for locations or ask a festival staff member.
Fuck you for deleting. I don't have the correct kind of eyebrows for this on hand right now.

Smart move, GV, now more of the water proceeds go directly into your pocket and not to the vendors or to the hourly wages of the people subcontracted to sell water/gatorade.
I like this idea almost as much as I like watching you all clamor over which cheap piece of aluminum has the design you want to pay $25 for.
Consumerism at its finest.
EDIT: pardon my cynicism, I'm a little irritable due to lack of marijuana to smoke. I think this idea will be good in a year or two when they've got some of the kinks worked out. I'm still banking on frozen water bottles, though I will be bringing the Nalgene I stole eight years ago in order to take advantage of a 32 oz. refill for $1.
Hannahrain
03-30-2009, 05:16 PM
Having custom steel water bottles produced isn't cheap, even for a large presence like Goldenvoice. And, people still have to staff the refill stations, since water is going to be sold there. It's not a fountain. This is a lousy candidate for low-energy hipster outrage.
It's going to work well for many people, and it allows people to bring their own bottle and spend half what they would have on water. It's not a ploy. It's a genuinely good idea. And bottled water is still going to be sold. They're not getting rid of that. You're being ridiculous.
Goddamn people editing their post while I'm exhibiting low-energy outrage over it.

yeah, instead they are helping the fans who have already paid a ton of money to even be there. for shame!
let's see: for $25 you would get 12 bottles of 16.9 ounces each, which = 202.8 ounces
to break even you will only need to fill up your 27oz. stainless steel water bottle approx. 8 times over 3 days with the free cold filtered water. plus it has a top, unlike the plastic bottled water you buy.

This is why I like you.

And I'm not outraged at all, I actually think this is a really good idea (see my first post in this thread). I just don't think it's as full of sunshine and rainbows as Luca does.

I don't get it though. I buy my $25 bottle, then there are only 3 places to go where I can refill it for free? I want the steel bottle but I like having a few bottles of water in my backpack. I'm a thirsty boy

I read it that there will still be self-serve warm tap water stations like last year and they will still sell cooled bottled water and other drinks as in the past but they are adding the three staffed stations that dispense cool, filtered water.
You can still buy bottles of water/etc for your backpack. You could even bring your own plastic bottle (32 fl oz or less) and keep that in your backpack and still buy a stainless steel Coachella bottle for $25 (and/or a Coachella plastic one for $10.)
They are offering new options, not limiting what you can do with the old ones.

ok first off i want to say i think this is a great idea. i love gettin my coachella consumerist junk, and a metal water bottle that can be refilled all weekend is in fact awesome. i know most of us spend approximately $25-50 on water all weekend, and at the end of the week all we have to show for it is a bunch of plastic trash. however, i am a bit confused by this,
"Bring your own container - it must be completely empty to enter the festival (from the main entrance or any camping areas). No glass, metal and no camel packs. You can fill up at the free drinking fountains or purchase cold filtered water for $1 per filling. 32oz maximum container allowed in."
now the no glass is a no brainer, but no metal? they containers they are selling ARE metal, so what gives? it seems a bit counter intuitive to the whole 'green' idealogue that coachella promotes; if i have a one perfectly good metal bottle, why make me buy another one? i also dont see the problem with camelbacks, but maybe some reason that i just didnt think of (other than wanting your $$).
all in all though, i am pleased, and will be purchasing one myself.

Can we bring in more than one empty 32 oz container? I'd like to have a couple plastic bottles on me and also pick up the steel one. Like Salah said. (2 peas in a pod n all)

Do they also sell swamp water, or is cold filtered water the only option available?

Sometimes there are pools of muddy water on the ground, can we refill from those for free with the Coachella metal and/or plastic bottles?

The 27 oz water bottles look cool but I don't think I want to have to hold onto it all weekend. I like the little plastic water bottles because i can keep it in my side pocket of my cargo shorts. This way my hands are free to molest the cute girls in the sahara tent... Of course I could hook it onto my belt. I'll just have to wait till I get there to decide.

I'm absofuckinglutely getting one.
1. You are guaranteed to spend no more than $25 on water the entire weekend.
2. You are reducing waste.
3. You get a kick ass reusable bottle than you can use year round and have people say, "Say, Jack, where did you get such a handsome bottle?"
Paganman for the triple win!

Please tell me that maybe you'll still sell them, later, on the merch site, even if we can't have metal in the festival. They looked great.

Yes, read the page. :) Your own 32 oz or smaller plastic bottle is permitted.
