The title says it all. What an awfull "performance". I know I'm going to hear it from all you fuckin shoegazing music fans, but to say that MBV performance was great or legendary is just a flat out lie. MBV is just guitar feedback noise with some lame singing. I mean what the fuck. Can't anyone see that MBV is a piss poor attempt to be like The Jesus and Mary Chain or The Cocteu Twins. What the fuck was up with that transexual in the red dress? Oh shit! wait. That was a chick? REALY???? WOW. Ok I'm done. Start your crying and bitching.
P.S. Just so you people know; I was listening to MBV music while most of you were still sucking on your mothers' tits. Next time Coachella should invite a real shoegaze band, like The Cocteu Twins. Now that's real music.

Yes, and the signal had the following letters: MBV.
I can't believe that you people think MBV is even music. Then again, look at American Idol. That shit is awfull, but it still draws a big miss-guided fan base.

My Bloody Valentine isn't for everyone. But for those of us who are into it, they are the poster children of an era of music that changed our lives. And their live performance was as legendary as we'd all heard. If you didn't like it, why didn't you just go take a shit for 45 minutes and free up a spot for someone who has decent taste in music?

There were a couple other options for you to check out while that "awful noise" pleased the MBV fans. I never understand people who sit through an act they hate just so they can bitch about it later. That would be like ordering your least favorite food at a restaurant that also serves your favorite food just so you can tell the waitress how much it sucked.

Just a thought... Maybe some people who sat through all of that hot noise were waiting for the next band and wanted to secure a decent spot to watch the show...?

Then they should at least be respectful of the performer everyone is there watching until their performer starts.
There really is no point in crying about how they should ban an artist just because you don't like them.

First off, this thread sucks, fails and everything that can be used as a synonym for "sucks" or "fails."
My Bloody Valentine was hands down the best performance at Coachella this year (and perhaps in the past 4 years) in my opinion. If you want to talk about musicians that should be banned from Coachella, how about we try the geriatric Beatle who put on a 2.5 hour show that had me wanting to stick a revolver down my throat but had to deal with it since those I went with loved him. At least the over-zealous dads who tagged along with their family complete with a toddler in the crowd would be kept at bay. Or, how about that other 2.5 hour mess that was the Cure headlining to a barely-there crowd. The 10 minutes of pure distorted white noise coming from MBV that had people scrambling to other areas of the festival was exponentially greater that both of the aforementioned. Speaking of noise, did you happen to step near the main stage for The Killers? If you want to talk about unnecessary high volume music, they take the cake -- but only because they play their instruments so poorly that they need to mask it with overpumped decibels so nobody notices. It was so loud I had to switch to my heavy duty earplugs, and I'm glad those who I went with chose to flee after 5 songs because that was some pure garbage not worth losing hearing over.
I'm not going to argue with your opinion because it's clear that you aren't a My Bloody Valentine fan, much like I'm not a Macca, Killers or Cure fan. The fact of the matter is that Goldenvoice brought to us a recently reunited, inspiring and influential band who 1 in 25 people in Coachella have been dying to see. You got your (insert band you were elated to see), we got our MBV. Maybe next year they'll please you, but it was our turn this time around.
Oh, and calling Belinda a tranny? She was absolutely beautiful for a person her age. You'll be lucky if you look a quarter as good as she does at her age judging by all the crack and drugs you must be doing.

I actually agree. I enjoyed first half of the Cure, but then got really bored with their set. And I did notice much more people leaving then any other headliner.
Then again, you have to take into account it was the end of the festival. So it's possible some wanted to get a head start on heading back (work/school etc on monday). But, I bet you if there was a much more captivating headliner, those people would have stayed.

It was so so so boring, or at least it was for me -- someone who isn't familiar with their complete catalog. Also, the crowd kept thinning out and it looked like less people were there than most of the acts throughout the day. If anybody was still sticking around when they cut the sound, it was probably those psychos Cure fans who ran to the mainstage at 12pm and went throughout the entire day without water and food just to be up front. The Cure DOES sound good and play well, I give them that. I understand why The Cure was booked this year, too: They played a lengthy set and probably cost less than most other headliner-worthy bands.

wow fuck you, you racist POS. so your from WATTS huh? i did a little research on your community since i myself am not to familiar with LA, would you like to see what i came up with?
"The community has the lowest household income in all of Los Angeles County at $17,987. Per capita income stood at $6,681; 49.7% of families and 49.1% of individuals were below the poverty line. Unusually, the household income in the 1980 census for Watts was higher than it is today even with inflation."
so here is the funny part. lets assume that you are even tough enough to 'beat some white-boy ass' (cause we all know hard ass black dudes kick in on the net). the thing is, youll never get the opportunity. you see, your so fucking pathetic and poor you have to invite him to your place. you couldnt even afford a fucking bus ticket to wherever he lives. so while your wishing he dies or gets raped or whatever, we are gonna be comfortable sitting in our mcmansions knowing your ass will get raped in prison soon enough. i believe the phrase is "dont drop the soap", but im sure your very familiar with the process.

If the crowd seemed smaller it was just that Sunday was the lowest attended day. The crowd for the Cure was much bigger then The Killers...and the Killers had a decent crowd (and put on a great show I might add). It being Sunday, of course people are going to cruise out early. This is the way its always been. Whether the headliner is Roger Waters, Tool or Rage (albeit the crowd leak for rage was at a much smaller pace then almost any other Sunday headliner). Most people are just tired or have to work the next day. The Cure sounded fucking amazing and what I saw (I only watch an hour) was loads better then their 2004 set or the set I just saw at Red Rocks last year...I am actually regretting I didn't keep my spot and stay for the whole set (was worth it for the bit of Cube and TG that I saw though...so I stand by that choice). And again the crowd was much bigger then in 2004. All the headliners brough it this year...yeah Paul played some crappy stuff at the beginning but I think he was trying to feel out the crowd to see what worked and what didn't (just like a true musician does be it Jazz or Electronic). The Killers despite all the sound issues they faced and being sandwiched between 2 huge headliners knew they had to being it and they did.

The difference between my opinion and the rest of the boards' is that as much as I can voice my disdain for many of the bands, I can still admit to bands sounding good, playing well, etc. which eventually boils down to my personal tastes vs. safer music taste. I noted this in the "Coachella funeral" thread. Had Coachella's lineup been that of this year's Primavera Sound, I'd be glowing right now. I'm not sure what the future holds for my attendance at future Coachellas.

you can't really compare Coachella to Primavera. These are 2 entirely different festivals. We had know the Coachella line up since Jan. You could have easier saved the money and went to Spain. Given what I spend at Coachella I could easily spent that money on any Euro/Japanese/American festival. But I went because even after all the other line up releases the Coachella line up was still better in my tastes then any of them. This year was the most difficult year for them to even get headliners and the fact that it still happened and ended up with the 2nd best selling attendence tells me next year shouldn't be such an issue. Especially from an investor standpoint. Sponsers won't be an issue and getting money from AEG won't be an issue either. So Coachella will be able to go back and doing what it pleases.

I love reading posts about how much people hated MBV. You know, I didn't want to see half of the shit at Coachella this year but I went, had a fucking blast and I'm sure as shit not going to complain about how I had to hear a little bit of The Killers so they should be banned.
Who gives a fuck?
I think MBV was amazing and it was a huge moment for me to finally see them. They were exactly what I (and anyone else who really wanted to see them) expected. Loud, abrasive, unapologetic, fucking great.
Why the fuck would anyone want a Coachella that completely lent itself to one specific genre or appealed to only your taste in music. Every year (for the last five years) I see some crazy shit that in no way makes me happy, but I have to believe that someone is really getting into it. That's what this fest should be about to you. Thousands of people coming together and enjoying the company of so many other people that just want to relax and forget about the world for three days.
You didn't like MBV? Fine. Obviously, they aren't for everyone but shut the fuck up about it. I'm sorry that a little over an hour of your festival time got 'ruined' by having to see them. Maybe someone should've told you about the other four fucking stages.

I don't think those people have a right to bitch. They made a choice to watch a band they didn't really want to watch, so it's their own fault if they don't like it.

There really is no point in crying about how they should ban an artist just because you don't like them.

wow fuck you, you racist POS. so your from WATTS huh? i did a little research on your community since i myself am not to familiar with LA, would you like to see what i came up with?
"The community has the lowest household income in all of Los Angeles County at $17,987. Per capita income stood at $6,681; 49.7% of families and 49.1% of individuals were below the poverty line. Unusually, the household income in the 1980 census for Watts was higher than it is today even with inflation."
so here is the funny part. lets assume that you are even tough enough to 'beat some white-boy ass' (cause we all know hard ass black dudes kick in on the net). the thing is, youll never get the opportunity. you see, your so fucking pathetic and poor you have to invite him to your place. you couldnt even afford a fucking bus ticket to wherever he lives. so while your wishing he dies or gets raped or whatever, we are gonna be comfortable sitting in our mcmansions knowing your ass will get raped in prison soon enough. i believe the phrase is "dont drop the soap", but im sure your very familiar with the process.
p.s. MBV does kinda sorta suck
that was pure win.
Any ways I have nothing against MBV, I watched yeah yeah yeahs before and simply left with my friends after their set to catch some other musicians I wanted to watch.. There will always be a band you may not particularly like.. that's why there is always other acts to catch if don't like one.

This is starting to get at the root of it. As much as some people think that Coachella is for kiddies or the masses, it's not. It's for people who LOVE MUSIC, GODDAMNIT. I have my opinions on certain bands, but the thing is, if you didn't want to see a band, fine. Go watch something else. Or leave. If you didn't get MBV, fine. Most people don't.
And this thing about The Cure's set being boring for people who aren't familiar with the whole catalog, partial credit. I think if you were a real fan you would have stuck around and really gotten something out of it. A three-hour set is bound to have some lulls, even for the most die-hard fan.
I didn't see Maccy and I didn't see The Killers because I had no interest in the latter and I chose to spend my Friday night in Gobi over the former.
It's all about CHOICE.
Cheers,
-m

However, having spoken with many people in person who enjoyed it and reading how people felt about it giving me a better picture of them than I originally thought. I'm hoping for Mogwai into Tool to end Coachella 2010, or at least one day of it - Mogwai closing Outdoor stage. (edit: wait, I guess that kind of already happened in 06...)

I actually wondered if you could hear anything at any of the ot her stages during the holocaust. I was hoping you couldn't. That should have silenced all of Indio. :D
it wasn't nearly as loud as you fanboys would like to think. so now you're left with nothing. the music sucked AND it wasn't that loud.

I just want to express yet again how fucking awesome I thought MBV was and it actually makes me smile the intense reaction it brings up in people, love it or hate you can't help but FEEL it.
what an idiot. who cares if you can FEEL it. i FEEL all the trucks that drive by my office window. what the fuck is your point?????

Why do you waste your time... What's is it about their music that brings out the bastard-children?

It's not so much the music as it is their avid supporters, many of whom consider an MBV live show a religious experience. I've heard that before. I dig the band and their show but calling it a "religious experience" is a bit much.
That said, comparing them to Ted Nugent is grounds for sterilization.

The loudness argument is pretty silly. Even so, my ears rang for about a week after seeing them indoors in Seattle a few days after Coachella. Just saying.

People who didn't like MBV at Coachella should never come to the festival again. You are not wanted.

Coachella offers 4 other stages besides the one youre at- and a variety of things to eat, drink, look at, sleep under, etc
if thats not enough to keep you busy while an act you dont like plays.... i really dont know what to tell you. i guess this just isnt your kind of festival.
so why did you watch mbv again? was there NOTHING else to do!?
ps- i loved it, but thats irrelevant of course

Yessir. ATP UCLA 2002. It was amazing. It went:
Merzbow-->Sleater Kinney-->Boredoms-->Aphex Twin.

also, sorry for getting off topic, but for a question for SoulDischarge or anyone else who might know: what's a good Merzbow album to start with?

I'm actually not a good source. I only own two, I think. Although you might want to try 1930. Jared would know best. He started a young'uns guide. I'm kind of curious for him to finish it some time.

I would start with Merzbeat. It is his most accessible (albeit not his best) work. It is pretty much Merznoise with electronic beats. Frog + is a very unique release, he sampled the sounds of frogs and made them into this ungodly noise. So you can start there.

I gave my friend Pulse Demon by Merzbow awhile back and he's never asked me for music suggestions again. It wasn't the reaction I expected at the time but hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.

. Next time Coachella should invite a real shoegaze band, like The Cocteu Twins. Now that's real music.
They did, in 2005, they pussied out, so shut up.

It was really funny hearing people walk by the main stage yelling "what the FUCK is that NOISE!?"
haha, I'd love to see that. It's great seeing larger-scale noise / no-wave bands play at festivals and to see people's reactions. People like the original poster :)

Yes, and the signal had the following letters: MBV.
I can't believe that you people think MBV is even music. Then again, look at American Idol. That shit is awfull, but it still draws a big miss-guided fan base.
So this guy is bringing up American Idol and MBV in the same sentence what?????dont go to coachella if you cant appreciate (not like) everything. I cant stand American Idol but I can under-stand why some might get sucked in to the terrible music...just chill out and go to another stage next time....

i've always wondered why anyone complains about any band/dj at coachella???? That's why you can walk like 5 min. and be listening to something else. dar dar dar dar dar..

My thoughts exactly. It's a brilliant band. It's a shame some of you don't appreciate greatness when it's right in front of you. You're missing out.

People have different tastes. It happens.
I'm sure plenty of people on this board can't appreciate Jay-Z or other good rappers. Or maybe a better example is I think Mogwai is brilliant but at least one person on this board made a thread about how pretentious they are.
