those are two great shots of both. i've never been to either, so i can't vote regarding sound quality. unless you are talking about which is better looking...in which case i'd have to say gorge.

Holy shit those are two incredible venues. Gorge gets my vote for epic scenery as far as the eye can see. Those red rocks, though incredible, sort of cockblock the great view.

Overall sound and scenery and anything else the venue has to offer. I have only been to the Gorge last year for Sasquatch. I will be going to Red Rocks in July for the first time and can't wait. I'm not voting as of yet but I figure just on scenery The Gorge edges Red Rocks.

Okokokok. I've been to both....
GRANTED i'm a CO native, however, there really is no contest.
Red Rocks all the way. No questions asked, anyone who has been to both will agree with me.
The pictures really don't do either venue justice. Much like Coachella, it's all about one's experience there.

I haven't been to either, but will be attending Sasquatch this year, so based upon the provided visuals I'd have to say that the Gorge wins during the daytime and Red Rocks wins at night.

I am a Colorado native too so I will abstain like rage but I will say this (I posted this before) …. Pollstar each year has industry awards …. They had a best outdoor venue award …. Every year without exception Red Rocks always won so they changed it so RR is not eligible ….. Now the award is the Red Rocks Best Small Outdoor Venue Award (they broke outdoor up from small and large) …. So because the Rocks are so special, they can never win the award again lol ….. cr****
ps, plus for sound, I am thinking RR would kill the Gorge ..... i saw floyd do a quad thing up there one time .... wow

The gorge. The grass looks very nice to sit on and that view is something else. Also like the looks of that big GA section near the stage.

I have never been to either place. Both look nice. I cast my vote arbitrarily based on proximity to a major metropolitan area and a U2 video from the 80s.

The Gorge looks so unbelievable, but how's the sound? Red Rocks is not only beautiful but the sound there is what put it over the top for me, just absolutely perfect.

The Gorge's sound on the Lawn isn't all that good (quiet). Plus if you are close to the middle of the stage and up near the rail its pretty quiet there too. There is a reason why Redrocks won all those years in a row and I hope to someday see a show there.

Haven't been to either venues but would definately love to some day!!! The gorge can get windy and I imagine that would effect sound quality and I'm curious do they use enough speakers to get loud sound quality throughout that giant open space???

the red rock looks like musics version of Field of Dreams...."if you build it, they will come"

The dude in the orange shirt is also cockblocking the great view. He looks like a Creamsicle promotional bouncy house.

i guarantee both of those are better than my local shithole of an outdoor venue. Sure it looks nice, but it sounds like shit.

Jones Beach is pretty awful. It's like a big litter box.

I feel like the red rocks' picture does not do it justice at all. I'm going with red rocks cause its the only one I have been to and I love it there.

Precisely. I like strolling along the beach before going into the venue, and it's not even a terrible drive to get there (by NYC-area standards). But the view and the nice breeze that sweps through there don't really make up for how crummy the sound is.
My last show there was during Brian Wilson's SMiLE tour, which I'd already seen at Carnegie Hall. The crowd in the city was reverential, soaking up every single glorious moment. At Jones Beach, they were kvetching for "Fun Fun Fun." I should have expected a bit of that.

I've never been to either. They both look beautiful. It looks like Red Rocks has stone benches to sit on, while the Gorge is mostly lawn? So, it seems like the view would be better for Red Rocks, but the Gorge would be more casual...
They both look better than the Hyundai Pavilion or Verizon Wireless amphitheater. And, I am guessing there are less winos than at the Hollywood Bowl.
:Sigh: Maybe someday!

Red Rocks could only possibly be cooler if the whole thing hovered, too. That's the only way.

I've only been to the Red Rocks, but I haven't seen a show at either one (I went to the Red Rocks at age 16 because I happened to be in Colorado Springs and I wanted to see where U2 played). I think if Radiohead or Bjork or someone I really liked played Red Rocks again, I would try to go. Also, I would like to do Sasquatch some year.
