Who gets the win, Fatboy Slim 08 or Girl Talk 09. Im compaing them because they both did friday, although Fatboy Slim got to close and had a longer set. Please only reply if you saw both sets from beggining to end. Let me know who you liked better and why.

I liked Girl Talk a little better, but its like apples and oranges for me. both unexpectedly fun fresh and good times. wonka intro is a classic though.

I was at '08 and feel it would be hard to top. She did threaten the festival form the stage after all...

Did she play the gunshot loop for 10 minutes in 09? I heard about the fiasco in 08 and was not about to get anywhere near her set.

I accidentally walked into them this year thinking, "This doesn't sound like Junior Boys at all." Then I realized they were the next tent over.

Yeah, Electric Touch was fucking empty. Sad, but not really.

possible more annoying. especially since her shit dj was throwing that horn into songs where it was totally unnecessary.
as soon as she started to pull people on stage i was just thinking 'didn't she learn her lesson last year?' clearly not.

so a steady downward slope...

I WAS on shrooms, and molly, but got separated from my group and completely freaked out. Well, i wouldn't say I freaked out.. Not unless you call walking back and forth between EDC, TG, and The Cure about 12 times in a matter of an hour and then walking back to the campsite well before either one of them finished freaking out.

no, i think GV books great sahara acts EVERY year, i was simply saying that your LIST sucked...

'07? eh, Justice or MSTRKFT were the best sahara act in '07... Infected Mushroom & LCD Soundsystem were also better than Faithless...

and of course '07 probably had the weakest Sahara in the last ten years...

give me a fuckin break if you think CROOKERS or THE BLOODY BEETROOTS compares to something like etienne

you need to compare that shit to comparable artists of years past (soulwax, booka shade, etc) we're talking BIG DANCE ACTS now shut the fuck up, your whole post is null

and so you can further understand.. the years fatboy slim, whether you like it or not, has been active and spinning (faithless too) makes mstrkrft and justice get on their knees and suck it
and thats the way to compare acts, by their style and size, you cant compare daft punk to the bloody beetroots can you? but you can to the chems, faithless and fatboy
boys noize... you have to be kidding

and aphex is in a whole other level

How can you call 07 the weakest Sahara in the last ten years?

On Friday 07 you had Faithless' first US appeareance in I don't know how long, Digitalism doing a live set and the dj thing. Plus David Guetta, Felix da Housecat and Benny Bennassi, who I may not be a fan of but were quite popular especially in 07.

Saturday saw the first ever Justice live set in the US. And we had the LCD Soundsystem (who are at the forefront of EDM) and The Rapture. GV even had the foresight to keep Tiesto out of the tent.

Sunday we had Soulwax doing Nite Versions a performance that shot their popularity through the roof, Richie Hawtin, PVD and the Happy Mondays( whose performance might of been shitty but practically invented rave).

GV kept all the Girl Talk, !!!, Spank Rock, stuff out of the tent too. Too many acts get thrown in there so carelessly now.

yeah... it wasn't.

but that's besides the fact... from 8:00-8:30 Ghostland was the ONLY act performing on the entire polo field besides Cohen, that's gotta help...

but yeah, i caught the last two songs from Ghostland and had no problem getting into the tent on the underbelly... the only Sahara act i saw the entire weekend where you couldn't even get in on the underbelly was Ting Tings... but of course, the crowd wouldn't have been as tightly packed for a non-dance act such as them anyway, so it may have been full even if there were technically less people.

My main issue with Girl Talk is that almost every time I have seen him it is almost exactly the same experience. He does many of the same antics, uses many of the same remixes, has the crowd dance on stage at the same time, etc.

He's fun the first time but his set doesn't have a big replay value for me.

It's similar to when you go to see a comedian and they almost do the exact same jokes just varying a few of the punch lines and joke order.

I've seen him I think 3 times in the past year or so. He played pretty much the same thing each time...I like him, and he's really fun live, he just really does need to mix it up a bit 'cause he's got a good thing going for the most part.

Although the most recent time I saw him I did get on stage and that's kind of exciting.

12-17-2009, 09:33 PM
Fatboy Slim's set is what made me fall in love with Coachella. The only thing that bothered me was that he was 30 minutes late, but he more than made up for it. I've been a Norman Cook fan since his Pizzaman days, and that was my first time seeing him, so I may be a little biased.

As for Girl Talk, I would never play his stuff while driving/chillin at home/etc, but I had a lot of fun for the last 15 minutes I caught of his set. I went in with no expectations, which was probably the way to go. I totally understand how he doesn't have the "I have to see him again" appeal, but I had fun for those 15 minutes and that's really all I can ask for. I was also just smoked a blunt, so that may have helped.

Kinda hard for me to say. I saw all of Fatboy Slim's set, where as with Girl Talk I only saw about the last 20 minutes. But, just with that last 20 minutes it was such an awesome experience. Girl Talk seems to get a lot of shit, but everyone that i saw who was watching him seemed to enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, Fatboy was also a damn good time too.

M.I.A. was absolutely awful this year. Since she's famous now I guess she doesn't have to try. There was about 2 minutes of song for every 10 minutes of annoying horn. She was better in '08.
