According to the live blog from the Disney panel @ Comic Con, Daft Punk has put together 20+ songs for the new Tron movie and will be doing a tour based on the movie.

12:35 Stephen Johnson:
Fan question time!

12:37 Stephen Johnson:
Fan: Why did you choose Daft Punk to do the music? A: How could you not? We met them, and hit it off from the beginning. We've done 24 tracks for the movie.

12:38 Stephen Johnson:
Fan: Will there be a Daft Punk tour based on this music? A: I guarantee it.

A tour? Do we even know what the new Tron is going to look like? Is it going to be similar to the old one or totally revamped?

I could see a Tron themed tour that would involve throwing disks, riding in the light cycles, battling the master control program, etc.

Because the Disney panel is the "guarantee." I just don't see Daft Punk doing a "Tron-themed" tour.

I agree, I thought it was pretty obvious that some of the graphics were a tribute of sorts to Tron. I don't know. Maybe I am just skeptical because DISNEY just anounced a Daft Punk tour. For some reason my mind just can't process it as an actual tour anouncement.

Also, where is this trailer you speak of?

I did a google search and found the trailer. Well, it's not really a trailer, it's more like a "Sneak Peak" of a scene from the movie. It's a bootleg from Comic Con only, you can hear the crowd cheering. It looks good from what I saw. I'm glad to see Jeff Bridges is in it again!

That would be a very wise move on Bonnaroo's part, but I don't see it happening if we go by past electronic/dance artists at Bonnaroo. Late night set for DP would be INSANE.

I hope the music isn't too crazy-dance-pyramid and more minimalist and ambient. More exciting music during the action sequences, of course, but hopefully more in the light of "Steam Machine" and not like "Technologic" or "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

I think the Orb should have done this, but whatever, I'm excited about it!

I'm down for some cycle action.

A Tron inspired tour is a great way to bypass the inevitable post Alive tour sophomore slump. This way it's not like they have to trump the Pyramid themselves, which leaves them open to do whatever they want on the tour following the Tron tour.

The pitchfork article has a funny mistake.

Earlier today, Kosinski spoke at Comic-Con International, giving a few tantalizing details about the flick. According to Movieline (via Idolator), someone in the crowd at Kosinski's panel asked him if Daft Punk would tour their soundtrack, and he said that "there would definitely be Daft Punk Tron-themed events on the horizon." Tron Legacy isn't due until 2007, and we've been burned by movie directors before, so don't start polishing your robot helmet just yet. But if this is true, it could be so awesome.

You actually have a great point. Up until this point, I thought no matter what Daft Punk did for their next tour, it won't meet expectations. The pyramid was just too fantastic. However, if they do a "tron-themed" tour... then it is a sort of out, if you will, to not have the pressure to create something greater than the pyramid.

I hope the music isn't too crazy-dance-pyramid and more minimalist and ambient. More exciting music during the action sequences, of course, but hopefully more in the light of "Steam Machine" and not like "Technologic" or "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

I actually think Daft Punk is a great choice for the soundtrack. As stinkbutt and Daft Punk themselved have already said, they are huge fans of Tron. I am sure they didn't just knock out 20+ songs for the sake of making them. I have faith a great deal of time and thought went into every single track. They aren't going to Human After All this. I have a feeling there is definitely going to be a good deal of minimalist and ambient tracks. Probably some stuff like we have never before heard from Daft Punk. But there will probably be some more upbeat stuff dance-y too, though, more like what Daft Punk are known for and what we are used too. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the songs turn out sounding more like Homework though.

I'd rather have had Kraftwerk do the soundtrack.

Can't argue with you there.

Yeah but if Disney is running this you don't know what you might get. He could mean that there is going to be a Tron Themed Show with Daft Punk's music but they won't neccesarily be there. Just how they do those High School Musical Tours and it's really nobody from the movie on the tour.

I can see it now, "Disney Presents Tron on Ice with the Music of Daft Punk featuring an appearance by Wall-E"

I'd rather have Igor Vlasov or Tangerine Dream (early '80s style only) do the soundtrack.

Hah, someone actually re-created the music from that Comic Con thing.

For what it is, it's pretty good.

All joking aside this would be cool but I agree with other posts on here and I would definitely wait for an official statement from the robots themselves.

Watch Daft Punk's involvement was confirmed by the guy that put on the fake concert in China. Just kidding!

Have you seen any of the 3D movies recently? They're excellent. They've come a long way with that technology and I think pretty soon the majority of movies at theaters are going to be offered in 3D.

Fuck this 3D shit. I've had several experiences where 3D movies make me barf or come too close to it.

I wasn't too hyped about any of this until I just watched that trailer, though.

Do it. It's quite an adventure like no other. I often wonder what the board would look like in Tron's world.

You can watch it on google.com video search, they have the entire movie. I actually watched it for the first time yesterday to be honest with you. I was kind of lost at first but then as it went on i started to grasp the idea. Between the trailor for the new one and watching the original all together with Daft Punk doing the soundtrack, i think this is going to be a dab ass movie. After actually watching it another thing i realized is why daft punk is the perfect group to do a soundtrack for this movie, the style of the movie and the style daft punk can bring to it fits perfect.

Daft Punk have announced that they will hit the road in 2010-2011. No offical dates or countries have been confirmed, but Busy P has claimed the band are back in the studio working on new material.

cr****

That is a straight quote because I did notice that it should say "the band IS back in the studio" not "the band ARE back in the studio."

I watched that for the first time all the way through a couple months back. It's one of those rare cases where a remake sounds like a good idea. It's got great production design and everything and is a lot of fun to watch, but it's not a very good movie overall.
