I know I've been posting a lot of bullshit music threads lately, but fuck you, your threads all reek of rotting squid carcasses anyway. Now . . . thread.
No, not L7, but the Shangri-Las, the Shirelles, the Ronettes, and all the other matriarchs of melodrama that were part of the 60's girl group explosion. You can even talk about the New York Dolls if you want. Admire. Relate. Emote. Threaten to drive off a bridge if your parents don't acknowledge the inseparable spiritual bond between you and the rebel that will one day break your heart.
A few top shelf classics:

Great song, poor quality:

And one cheap sounding obscurity unearthed by Non's very own Boyd Rice on his compilation Songs For Pussycats

A whole different planet. No disrespect intended, but they just don't quite fit here.

When I read the title of this thread the first thing that came to mind was:

Go start your own Musically Inept But Disarmingly Charismatic Artists thread and cry about it in there. Just don't forget the Hasil Adkins.

Nice pick Bryan.
Anecdotal material: My gay ex-roommate told me about a game his mother used to play with him. They would listen to the oldies station and she would have him guess whether the singers in the girl groups whose songs came on were black or white.

That would be an interesting game. What surprised me the most was when I heard that the backup singers for Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help From My Friends" were men. Go figure.

That boxset is better than smeared lipstick, tear stained dresses and cheap cigarettes combined.
