There will be a dub artist this year
I can bet my left testicle on it
So theres a large chance it could be him
I'd rather it be caspa though
(if were talking about "big" dubstep artists)
Bassnectar better will happen but hes not straight dubstep.

Bassnectar was everywhere this summer and he's still going strong now. There's no way he won't be at Coachella next year.
I hope Skream and Caspa are there more than Rusko.

Seriously. The MC and the rewinds just break my heart :(
I would also support Chase & Status.

meh...dj set. i guess you can get tired of c&s pretty quick if they're doing an hour + performance. dj sets always seem so impersonal, especially when you know the artist is available to perform live.

because it wasn't 1+ hour of only dubstep. if you don't drop something else -breaks, dnb, etc- in your set, there's a chance a good amount of people will leave.

if you've seen these acts live you'd see that they mix all kinds of things into their set..
and if that was true, then people would be clamoring to get rid of the Dome, which was almost mostly dubstep and glitch hop, but people want that shit..
and dubstep is the fastest growing sub genre right now, Coachella is all about booking the next big things..

Dubstep has been ruling the EDM world as of late
I bet you a frozen lemonade that if theres a dub artist billed and its not before 5 (since the sahara is almost always pretty empty before then) that it will be pretty packed.

not much of a next big thing. it is the big thing now. dubstep has become the trendy shit everybody wants to be in.
i don't doubt there will be 'dubstep' artists at coachella next year. i'm just saying the dome might suit them better than the sahara tent.

i agree it's probably better suited for the dome, but i think a couple of the biggest dubstep names should play the Sahara (glitch hop too)..
i still consider it next big thing, cause it hasn't even come close to peaking yet, it's gonna take over the world..

who said it was the next big then?
I deffinitely agree its become pretty trendy, but that doesnt take away the fact that most of it is pretty damn amazing.
As for whether it should be in the dome or the sahara, well that depends on the artist.
Artists like Bassnectar, Caspa, Skream vs Benga (as it should be no other way), etc belong in the Sahara.
The smaller ones like Bar 9, N-Type, Mala, etc i could see filling up the dome and it being fine.
It all depends on the artists really.
BUT the dome WILL be in a better location this year.
IT. WILL. HAPPEN.
(or of course they make a short cut that goes straight from the sahara to the dome fitted with one of the moving sidewalk thingys)

haha...
oh and there already has been a dubstep artist in the Sahara...The Bug, last year. Major Lazer in dub more or less..
They'll be dubstep, and it will be dubstep that people know... Caspa & Rusko have sorta reached their peak with their success of Cockney Thug and Where's My Money... While I admire their work, if they were going to be at coachella it would have been last year... I think Benga is most fit for the sahara (if we're talking strictly big uk dubstep names) he has the most groove in his tracks... tacking on Skream with him wouldn't be a bad idea either though.
Bassnectar will tear down the tent... and it will be amazing.
Dr. Lufs-al-ot
10-22-2009, 03:25 PM
The Bug wasn't in the Sahara, although he should have been.
I wont disagree that dubstep had a major impact on Coachella '09, But id like to see some larger dubstep artists in the Sahara at Chella '10.
Namely Caspa, Skream vs. Benga (only way), Bassnectar, and even Rusko (my least favorite out of the selection here but still good).
Yaa I can agree that Caspa and Rusko have reached their peaks, but it doesn't take away the fact that they have some bitchen music and they'd put on a great show.
FTR, im surprised they weren't at Coach last year as your right it would have been their year.
And since when was Major Lazer dubstep? fuck that.

The Bug wasn't in the Sahara.. it was a weird set performing w/ Warrior Queen.. half the set was more or less her tracks, but the rest was him w/ her mc'ing.. his stuff was good whenever she wasn't on the mic..

producers should've kept it on vinyl to slow down the explosion of the genre. then again, they would be dead from starvation now.
also, many of the artsits you see lumped in the 'dubstep' label are not even dubstep.

God this thread sucks.
First of all, enough with the dome suggestions. You can't put this in the dome.
http://www.vimeo.com/1802530
Second, all this speculation as to when/if dubstep has peaked, whether or not its the next big thing... get a life. Its bass music man, you're not supposed to think about it this hard... if it moves you like it moves me, then all the pontificating in the world is utterly meaningless.
There are so many ridiculously good tunes floating around right now... to say that this stuff has no place in the Sahara is ludicrous. I'm sure we could squeeze in someone amazing like Silkie or Emalkay between Obligatory Trance DJ #4 and Obligatory Electro DJ #7...

no, the worst suggestion was whoever decided to put Shepard Fairey in the Sahara.
We're not at a warehouse in London. We're talking about Coachella on the interwebz. I don't know what kind of parties you went to this summer but dubstep was getting repped at most of the events in my area... if GV stays true to their contemporary tastes we will see at least one dubstepper in that tent, probably a big fish like Rusko... and the haters will watch them destroy that place. Never underestimate the power of bass...
orbit
10-23-2009, 08:54 PM
i'm not underestimating the power of bass. i'm pointing out the shit some of you people request. do you really think goldenvoice would put acts like silkie or emalkay in the sahara tent? even though flying lotus and kode9 played in the dome this year? really?
Daft Fro
10-23-2009, 09:51 PM
I see it going 1 of 2 ways:
1) They make the Dome so dope next year, the Sahara won't matter.
2) They put bigger names like Bassnectar/Glitch Mob/Rusko/Skream/Benga/Caspa/Mala/Coki/Plastician in the Sahara - and have Live dance in Gobi, and DJ dance in Dome during the time the Sahara is wobbling. and of course, the Do-Lab does their thing, and is wobbling half the time.
mittens4kittens

1) They make the Dome so dope next year, the Sahara won't matter.
that's impossible. The dome simply can't compete. The dusty little metal structure is no match for the massive sound and lights and lazers and energy of the sahara. I wanted to see kode9 and flying lotus BAD this year, but I just couldn't chill in the crapdome when the best party of the weekend was happening in the big top.
And to answer your question Orbit, yes, I do. Skream and Emalkay had two of the biggest tunes of the summer. In For The Kill went gold. They may not get a great time slot, but they put fucking Switch in that tent for god sake. He's a horrible DJ. Did you see people literally running to the Sahara that morning though when he started playing Cockney Thug? You're right, someone like Silkie is not popular enough with the mainstream to get booked there... but someone like Rusko? Chase and Status? Several of their tunes got dropped by other people this year, I don't know why you think they don't deserve a slot.
I'm not saying dubstep will take out more traditional 4x4 dance music. I'm saying that if you want an accurate representation of current EDM, you can't ignore it. It will always be marginalized, just like drum and bass, but it still has a place. You'd have to be pretty out of touch to say otherwise.
