he played a very decent, danceable set at coachella 2006.

i have seen him lots and lots of times and he's hit or miss, but still rather have him play than many of the other djs that play. nothing wrong with the guy at all.

also, kingdumb sounds like he's 17 or something.. ughs.

Hey guys, I guess I'm wondering what specifically is so abhorrent about these DJ's/or them coming to Coachella. Their music turned me on to EDM way back in the day, and of course there are newer and better styles going on that I would rather see in the Sahara. Is it the crowd they attract, the poor quality of their live performances, or just the outdated-ness that is turning everyone off? I've never seen any of them live, so I'm just wondering....I certainly wouldn't consider paying $70 for Tiesto's solo tour right now, but I'd rather have him do a set than Steve Aoki. Thanks for your responses, I am intrigued!

I just think that trance, in its current mutation, is fucking awful. I used to love the stuff too. But I've seen everyone of those guys either at festivals or in a club and they just plan suck.

And the sad thing is, trance doesn't need to be relegated to a shitfest. But DJ's like Armin and Tiesto have made it really hard to redeem it.

Also, even in my raviest of days, I never liked Armin. I've always thought his crescendos are uninteresting snooze-a-thons

was in Vegas for a bachelor party and we were staying at the Palms (Place).
Went to some megaclub there and low and behold, Oaks is the resident dj.

He was pretty fucking good. Granted I was drunk and hooking up with an Aussie chick, so I might be biased to greatness of the evening.

How on earth can you differentiate? Oakenfold is so disgustingly horrid, that I'm convinced only 14 year old girls and the guys who want to screw them like him. The last time I had to endure him was opening for Underworld at the Hollywood Bowl, and his cheesefuck trance was so fucking terrible and pandering that I wanted to throw shit at him.

Oakenfold doesn't deserve to spin at a garage sale much less a massive, but it's all the trance retards want these days.

And the fact that a bunch of Ed Banger cunts stole the term "electro" for their flavor of the month trendoid shit is no reason to be any more accepting of trance bullshit.

Eh. I'm the opposite. I'm sick of electro-house, but for awhile it was decent stupid fun. Trance, on the other hand, I've never been able to tolerate and had been a large stumbling block in me coming to appreciate non-IDM electronic dance music for a couple of years. Oakenfold's set at Bonnaroo was terrible. It sounded exactly like something you could hear on a weekend at Rage in West Hollywood. Regardless of whatever relevance the man might have once had in promoting whatever scene, he's settled into 'just-a-paycheck' mode. I don't know how anyone can enjoy that.

Prince had a residence in Vegas before Coachella... and Prince had to be one of the best acts Coachella has ever landed. Not to say Oakenfold is anywhere near the caliber of Prince.. but just because someone has a residence in Vegas does not necessarily discredit them.

Ok, but Vegas has also been the home to Celine Dion, Elton John (post Bernie Taupin), Barbara Streisand, and the late, fat, Elvis.

i'm ashamed to admit that alice deejay at the nile in 2000 was one of the best parties i ever went to. wall to wall people and not a soul wasn't dancing.

Don't feel bad about this. I think it's fair to say that even the biggest piece of shit DJ can occasionally pick out the right tracks to get a bunch of people who intentionally went to a club or rave or some other event in which dancing is inherent to dance.

Your point is nothing more than your opinion. Saying that: Vegas is the culmination of everything that sucks about America and if you set up shop there, you become part of that problem shows that you have a very narrow mind and don't get out much.

This whole thread is about opinion. That opinion started with one person saying, "No more Oakenfold". I'm giving reasons why this is a valid argument. And honestly, if you want to defend why Vegas is some valid outlet for artistic expression, then go ahead. But me hating Vegas is not me being narrow minded. It means I don't like that city, period.
