Just wondering. Internet ones aren't overly accurate, so I'm talkin' the real thing. I'd be interested to see what random board IQs are. Maybe that'll clear some things up here too.

This thread is just a bad idea. Discussions of IQ just never go over well. A lot of people bullshit, even more accuse others of bullshitting. Plus, if you really do have a high IQ it's just uncouth to talk about it.

The problem with IQ scores (besides the very real issue of people being stupid about discussing them, as thelastgreatman notes) is that each test is different. So a score of 100 on one test might be equivalent to a score of 120 on another.

Great idea. While we're at it, how big is everyone's dick? Mines 148. Wait, I mean ten and a quarter inches.

Also very true, Courtney. People have a lot of misconceptions about what IQ tests are really supposed to test for, and some of the varieties of test aren't true IQ tests IMHO. IQ questions are supposed to test your brain's ability to learn patterns that can't possibly be familiar to you--puzzles, of sort, but with no familiar reference points. There shouldn't be anything math or verbal related on them, it's not supposed to be a test of knowledge in any way.
Also, IQ scores are doubly bullshit because everything is scored on a relative scale where 100 is the average score no matter what, so you can't even compare two scores on the same exact test if they were taken a few years apart.

We have covered this on the board before. We all took an internet one. Mine said my intellect was comparable to Socrates.

That sounds exciting.
BTW, subtle insinuation that most of the board discussion recently has been moronic at best.

I took a test once, but they'll revoke my Mensa membership if I tell a soul how I scored...

I've never taken an IQ test. I don't want official confirmation that I am indeed, retarded.

Besides the fact that every IQ test is different, that even the same person's test score can vary greatly depending on their level of stress, mood, mindset, etc, there is more importantly the fact that 100s of studies have shown that these tests are, (although not necessarily intentionally) designed for middle class whites. Intelligence test have been used for decades as a means to justify racism against many different minority groups, and for this reason their use in schools and colleges is becoming increasingly less important.

The fact I have a higher IQ than Bryan is used as evidence/justification for my use of him as a slave. Obviously I am going to exploit Bryan because he is weaker. I was genetically predisposed to be more awesome than him, and not only more awesome but smarter as well. Social Darwinism baby: it's 07's trucker hat.

You're talking about standardized school tests, not IQ tests. True IQ tests have nothing to do with race, or knowledge. They're just puzzles.

I had some sort of testing in kindergarten.
I remember them showing me ink blobs and asking me what they looked like.
Another thing was I came into the room and there was all this random stuff on the table. They told me to just look at the stuff. Then without warning they swept everything off the table and asked me to put back the stuff as closely as I could remember.
Later they asked me to draw a picture of I forget who, either me or my mom or a hero. That one annoyed me. I drew a random person because I could not draw anyone that actually looked like someone I knew and they practically forced me to name who it was so I said it was Samantha from the tv show bewitched. hahahah.

and each one is generally meant to test IQ in a different way or has a different definition of IQ. for instance, there are two popular IQ tests out there which are studies in opposites. The Catell B is a british test and is heavily math based and time constrained. On the other side of the spectrum is the California Test of Mental Maturity, which is more qualitative (analogies and pictures), with no time restriction. The same person could score radically different on both. usually clubs administer both (or ones just like them) simultaneously.

In our local school district, all second graders are given the Raven Progressive Matrices to test their abstract reasoning and pattern recognition abilities. Since it's all visual, it's supposed to eliminate any bias against children with cultural/language/educational differences or learning disabilities. They use it to determine whether a child is eligible for the gifted program (yes, even at that young age).
When I was a kid, with teacher/counselor recommendation, you were selected for testing in junior high. You were sent off to the school psychologist and given the old Stanford-Binet IQ test.

How do you take a real IQ test? Do you have to go to some government office or something?
Courtney

Mensa administers them, but you have to qualify with an at-home pre-test.

If you have to qualify for the test, that must mean you have to have at least half a brain to actually take the test. How do really stupid people get an IQ score?
