Yes, absolutely. Go here for something to play it with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_media_players
I like VLC since it handles almost anything. If you want to watch WMVs in your browser, though, I would download Flip4Mac: http://www.flip4mac.com

hey corbo. I'd love to have a reasonable discussion about the nature of the differences between OSX and Windows (now that my apple can boot windows, and does, I don't think you can argue about macs), but you'll have to stop posting unfunny propoganda.

actually i like mac os X ever since i found out it runs under Unix BSD
its a far superior operating system than windows thats for sure.
i recently got a new laptop with vista..and to tell you the truth...its not that great.
corbo
04-06-2007, 08:55 PM
....i still prefer windows tho...just a personal preference
wmgaretjax
04-06-2007, 09:02 PM
so, it's superior... but you just don't prefer it?
that seems like a really intelligent conclusion. Let me guess, gamer? Maybe WOW?

its superior in the sense that its more secure and reliable. mac os x that is.
as far as the interface goes....its not my cup of tea....its frustrating for me. i hate the fact that i cant right click on items and look at its properties.
theres many other reasons i hate the interface...but i would have to revisit the OS for me to list them.
and yes i occasionally do play computer games from time to time. not WOW tho....i dont even want to start playing that ...i dont have the time....
the main reason..i prefer windows however is because i am more familiar with it than mac.

oh and i write code (c++, java, jsp) and work with relational databases.
i really dont have the time or the patience to learn how to set up a working environment on mac os x.

ha ha. I love it when people bring up the right click issue. You do realize you can use a two button mouse? Or just apple + click?
as a simple tip, one of my favorite things about OSX is Apple+Option+i a real time "get info" window.

I was considering buying another laptop (MAC). The main reason is that I want to purchase Adobe suite for video editing and PDF Writer. Not worth it? I just seems like studios use MACs more than PCs. Not looking at working in the industry but I want to increase my knowledge base.

I don't buy software (primarily because I don't use it to make money), but software is pretty similar between OSs.
I do a lot of video stuff on my OSX and use a variety of tools (FCP, After Effects, Max/MSP, and so on), it works wonders for me. I also do a lot of audio related stuff (DP, Logic, Pro Tools, Super Collider) with similar results. Realistically, most of this can be done on a PC without much headache. I enjoy how seamlessly I can string my software together (because of the UNIX/Cocoa base). Also, I've had great experience with customer support and the like.
I got a C2D Macbookpro 15in by the way. Love it.

What do you use your computer for? I use my mac to relay OSC messages between different software hubs for various purposes. It ranges from sensing and control mechanisms I've built to send physical data to my computer in order to manipulate digital media in realtime all the way over to analyzing fourier transforms in an effort to develop algorithms to integrate real and synthesized media.
But you know... I use a mac, so I must not be doing it right.

I have both, a PC desk and a MAC laptop.. I find more software compatible with Windows than with OSX, but I like the awesome reliability and security of the MACs.. Besides that I dont get any 'error message, would you like to send an error report?' anymore
