Will it help with the heat?
Worth the 70 bucks for shirt and shorts?

I was thinking about getting an underarmor beanie if it works.
I guess i'll have to see what this poll says

all I've heard is that the shorts will help with chaffing...

Yes. And anyone who has served in the Mesopotamian civil war would attest to this.
No debate required.

Why are they so great? What do they offer that other garments do not? Support? Anti-chafe? I'm seriously interested.

they wick sweat away from the skin and this helps with chafing.
studies show they don't do anything for core body temp though. so they don't cool you, they just keep you drier.
and there are other brands beyond UA, some cheaper. Champion makes a low cost equivalent that you can get at Target pretty inexpensively.

A small company called TR Gear thinks so. "Our extensive research shows that the high wicking fabrics currently used in the industry can actually increase the risk of injury, fatigue, overheating, and dehydration by not allowing sweat to affectively cool the body through evaporation against the skin,"
What a load of shit.
In essence it's like stating that high-cardio exercise can increase the risk of injury, fatigue, overheating, and dehydration.
Of course it can.
But if you have common sense, it won't matter.
Not wearing UA will get you injured at a MUCH higher rate than wearing it.
TR Gear is run by imbeciles. Send them all to Mesopotamia so they can be subsequently killed, imo.

The issue was will it keep you cool - something delta failed to see in his blind rage against the machine.
