is there anything we can do to pressure coachella to either allow sealed water bottles or at least lower the price of water?? it's the DESERT, people are experimenting, timmy already blew his cash just to be there... let him drink his water and survive. please someone... im writing letters to some local radio stations asking for some support and pressure. who's with me?

also, i know the goldenvoice people are running a business and need to worry about making money, but if the water price is lowered sufficiently, many more bottles could be sold and there would still be profit. it's my fourth year going to coachella and i just know how rough it can be when you're parched and just want to enjoy the experience...

yeah, it's not that expensive, and if you have to be a cheap ass, you can buy one bottle and refill it--there's at least one place out there you can do it. Or bring in an empty camel back thingy and fill it with the free water from a faucet once you're in the venue

04-09-2007, 02:15 AM
What is a bottle of water worth inside?
They have flowing water don't they?
Just buy a couple of bottles and refill through out the day!
Also do they allow camel packs?
tiffdud41
04-09-2007, 02:18 AM
they do allow them as long as when you enter they are empty

two dollars per bottle of water

04-09-2007, 02:41 AM
I don't know, I guess I'm cheap, but 2 dollars seems too much for me. Im a broke ass college student with this one luxury (coachella) a year.
after seeing a dude pee at the water stations near the porta potties, I was even scared to wash after i used to john.

vinylmartyr
04-09-2007, 04:28 AM
Serious how many bottles are you gonna drink 6 maybe 7 a day. If you don't have $40 you should not be going to Coachella. It cost more to drink at a bar in one night than water will cost you the whole weekend. For $100 you can eat and drink all weekend. Thats not a lot of money. I am poor I doubt I will spend half that much.

Damn, that would be hard. Last year I nearly died of thirst during Depeche Mode... But then they threw us water bottles and I caught one and was revived instantly.
But yeah, $2 is definately no biggie' for water. You probably only need like 2 bottles before 6 o'clock, and then 2 more after 6. At least if you drink it wisely.
Tylerdurden31
04-09-2007, 06:05 AM
$2 is chump change compared to most festivals. Woodstock 99 water was $4 and those guys probably could've given the water away with the amount of money they made. I've been told $5 and $6 for water at two separate shows @ Webster Hall in NYC. Stop. It.

$6? Where the hell did I get water from? I was there...I thought it was 4. I do remember a few people that were selling water that was actually cold for $5 for 3 bottles.

I doubt that a lowered price would result in an increased profit. That would only occur if demand was elastic (meaning that water is something like a luxury good that people don't really need):
http://www.macorr.com/images/price_optimum.jpg
But in fact, demand is fairly inelastic, because water is pretty much a necessity, so in fact I'm fairly certain that if profit was Goldenvoice's only concern they would raise the price significantly. $2 is a great deal, and significantly under the market cost when you compare Coachella to other festivals.

I'm so glad this thread exists. I was worried no one would post it this year.
edit. jeez courtney. That analysis is of course correct, and well done and all, but do you really think it will change the minds of the "$2 water is too much" contingent? I mean, if they could grasp basic economic principles, they'd be able to afford the water.

The Rules/FAQ (http://www.coachella.com/event/rules-faq) says "NO Camelpacks." It also says "NO Outside Food & Bev." Sometimes the staff working the gate won't know the rules, won't care or won't see what you're sneaking in. So sometimes people'll get in a camelpack or a full bottle of water but you can't expect to be able to bring these in. You shouldn't plan on it.
