Im 24 years old. Turning 25 in June. Ive had a bent drivers license for 3 or so years now. Its all flimsy and about to fall apart. I went to the DMV on Friday to apply for a new one. I should of told them it was lost/stolen because they punched a hole through the expiration year. They issued me a paper temporary license, and gave me back my hole punched ID. I thought that it takes 1 to 2 weeks to get your new license in the mail. The girl at the DMV told me 30 to 60 days! Im bummed. Friends and family keep telling me it wont take that long, but im bumming out. I know its my fault, so I shouldnt complain.... Can I still get into the beer gardens with my hole punched id and the temp paper license issued by the DMV??

try bringing your flimsy license and the temporary. show both to whoever is checking i.d.'s. if one doesn't take it, try the other beer garden. you really only need one person to accept it. you'll get your wristband to wear all weekend and you won't be asked for your i.d. again.

First of all, you'll probably get your license in time,so don't stress about it.Second of all, from someone who spent a large proportion of Day 1,2005 in the beer "gardens",trust me when I say you'll be doing yourself a favor not going in them the entire festival. You spend too much $$ and miss way too much Coachella goodness!Look in the various smuggling alcohol threads for more helpful info but this year I'm not planning on going into the beer gardens much.

Yeah, hopefully it will come in time, and if it dosent, hopefully they will except my sorry excuse for an ID. I dont plan on spending much time in the beer gardens, or getting wasted. Id just like to have a few beers during the day with my friends.

Oh yeah,if you applied real soon, like now,you might be able to get a passport in time.If you spend a little more you can get a rush job.A passport is good to have anyway if you ever have to flee the country in a hurry.

As a bar/restaurant manager, I know we wouldn't accept the paper license or a bent and/or punched license. Though I would assume that the guys checking IDs at Coachella probably don't have the liquor board checkng on them all the time.
A passport would work, though, but I don't know if you can get those with 17 days to spare.

you can go to the L.C, and they will issue you a photo i.d.
i'm not sure exactlly how to go about it, but i was going to do it because my licence is expired. I went and got a photo health card instead.

I googled and found out how to get one. Too much work and $$$ that I dont have. Ive used my bent ID for 3 years at bars and restaurants...never once denied. Havent tried with the hole punched one. Its hole punched on the expiration date, not my birthday. And I have the paper from the DMV showing the new expiration date...but im crossing my fingers my new ID gets here in time...

it still has your birthday on it, though, right? that should be the most important part in terms of verifying age.

Last year, the guy checking I.D. was stoned out of his mind. He couldn't figure out how old I was. I kept telling him,"if it says I was born in 1977, and its 2006, it means I am 29. The legal age to drink is 21." He kept looking at my I.d., looking back at me, looking at my i.d.....I guess he couldn't grasp the concept of math. I finally just said to him:"Look at the damn grey hairs!" That did the trick.

Worst case scenario: Have one of your friends (one of your good, patient friends) get their wristband, carefully pry it off and go wait in line at a different ID booth for another one. Bring a little gum and you're good. Worked for me last year when I forgot my ID at my condo (d'oh!) and the year before when I was underage.
They don't check your shit all the way around when you walk in. You just flash your wrist.
Another genius post for the Coachella officials to pick up on...

i was wondering if they scan IDs at the beer gardens. im from vancouver, and a couple liquor stores and clubs out here scan them before they let you in. this could be a problem for me because my license doesnt scan as it is quite trashed. will it be a problem?

If one ID check place doesn't work, you won't be heading over to the other one because they take your ID. I spent the first hour and a half in '05 trying to convince the ID check guys my ID was real, and eventually telling them to call over the police (or anyone of authority other than some idiot bouncer that read a "Work at Coachella!!!" flyer in his bar). I didn't even plan on drinking that much, I just wanted to hit up the Heineken tent for the A/C. Basically, yes, some of them aren't educated with all of the different states' IDs, which is understandable. Bringing your passport sounds ideal.

The liquor store?, and if its government issued with a photo and a signed, then you can use it for anything, what do you expect ppl do to if they dont have a licence?

People that dont have a license get a regular ID here. Looks similar to a drivers license but its just a plain and simple ID issued from the DMV. No bar or restaurant here will give you alcohol by showing anything other than a drivers license, ID, or passport.
So the L.C. stands for a Liquor Store? So your saying you can go to the L.C. and they will issure you a photo id?? I have no clue what your talking about.
Dosent matter anyways though...
If someone checking ID's at Coachella takes my REAL license away from me, then im going to have a HUGE problem with them...
