I mean seriously are these guys that good? I've listened to their music and was not that impressed. I also watched some of their videos on YouTube from live performances and also would have to grade that a C-.
So, what gives?

On the top right there is a "search" category...click on that, a drop down will appear, click on "advanced search" than type in Arcade Fire and search all thread titles with that name...BINGO!

Oh, you seem to be one of the only people who doesn't comprehend all the hype and general adoration of arcade fire. Good job speaking up.

you can't just listen to a song or two from them; they are better at making full album experiences than single songs. the lyrical content plays a big part in their music as well, so make sure you pay attention to that while listening.

it's okay if you don't like it, but I bet I know why people like it:

1. it's highly anthematic
2. it's very catchy especially on repeat listens
3. it's got performers that strongly believe in their music
4. it's got performers who are very down to earth
5. but yet it's visually envocative
6. it's got an accordian and two violinists and that's so hip, almost as him as having a banjo

Get in the middle of the crowd while they are playing and you'll get it.

euphoric to say the least

I couldn't understand the hype either, but after listening to their albums a couple of times, they really grew on me.

Can't wait to see them live. Maybe then I'll really get where all the praise is coming from.

I bought Funeral about six months before Coachella 05 and didn't really get it. Then I watched them play at Coachella and was mesmerized. Watching the music take life in the band changed it all for me. Since then I have become a huge fan and they are my most anticipated band this year.

Then again, everyone is different. I would say if you have time, check them out this year and you may fall in love also.

My buddy who doesn't get them came with me to see them in montreal a month ago.

He never really got into them, then he saw them

he was amazed, says it was the best show he's ever seen. From a guy thats not even a fan.

There that good live, wait till you see all of them on stage putting their heart into the music.

I don't get it, and I don't want to get it, but I think someone already did a thread EXACTLY like this one.

I wonder who will be conflicting with the Arcade Fire? Any guesses?
Because I do want to see them. I find thier music OK, but I wanna see what all the fuss about thier live performance is about.
But if someone I am more excited to see is on, I will have the miss the Arcade Fire.

poor guys nobody is going to watch them because everybody is all OMG NEON BIBLE atm

I remember when I went to Lollapalooza a few years ago and The Arcade Fire was up against G. Love & Special Sauce... he only had a handful of people, literally under 100 people watching him

Ya I also don't get it, I saw them on the TV on some late night talk show and I wasn't very impressed but I'm an open minded person so I'll wait till I see them at coachella to have an opinion!

The lead singer and some of the band members look like concentration camp survivors. They need to eat some food.

I asked them if they'd like to be in the food eating competition and they said yes; maybe this Coachella is a turnaround for them in terms of feasting

i have also been giving the lads and lassies from arcade fire a good listen to get ready for coachella. the end result is that they are way over hyped.

I agree that listening to the whole album a few times is the way to get them. If you try that and still feel the same way, then maybe they just aren't your thing...

I remember the 1st time I saw them at Coachella. I had only listened to the 1st album a couple of times. It really was one of those special Coachella performances (another one that comes to mind is Air at sunset). There are just some you never forget, and that was one of them, so maybe a lot of the good vibe on this board is from people who also experienced that.

I'm going to start a band with a banjo, a harmonica and one of those street drummers (with the barrels and pots and pans and shit).

It shall be called

A Soft Silhouette Hardened On Life's Edge

I was hooked from the very first time I heard "Neighborhood #2 (Laika)". This was just as they were starting to be hyped up, but months before Coachella 2005. Then I bought their albums and fell in love.

Their performance at Coachella '05 is what esentially sealed the deal.

Their big comeup was at the '04 ACL fest. Not many people there to watch at the beginning, but packed towards the end of their set.
That night Chris Martin of Coldplay would not shut up about them.

I will def be at Kings of Leon.

It would tote suck. But with 100,000 people I don't think that Kings will end up with 100 people watching them. A relatively small crowd in comparison yes.

However, I don't care if there is or isn't people watching the Kings. Better chance of me being in front for them....and I HAVE to be in front.

It is gonna suck missing arcade if it conflicts though. But I am seeing Arcade in June so I won't be that sad.

Its all about the LIVE show. That is what the hype was all about for Coachella 05- when they played, they blew everyone who was in audience---AWAY.

Arcade Fire vs. Kings Of Leon isn't a conflict. It's a nonflict. K.O.L are a terrible band, just terrible. And yes, I've seen them live.

I like Arcade Fire, I like both their albums but I feel they are seriously overhyped as well. They're good but some people credit them for saving music or something. Their live show is good... not the best show I've ever seen.

it seems to me that there is a gene that makes you either love Arcade Fire or be disinterested with them. I've seen some totally cream all over it on first listen, and another has been listening to both cds on and off for 2 months and "not get it"

i've also heard great things about the live show (my friend was at Coachella '05) but hope everyone's not hyping it up TOO much... i'd hate to expect something unbelievably amazing and end up with only really awesome.

id be one of those people who blew my load the second i heard funeral, and then again the second i heard neon bible.

they're not particularly impressive musicians or songwriters, but somehow, all together they make beautiful music. I mean, you can say the same about a lot of the greatest bands.

i was at coachella 05 and had never heard of them before, and my friend and i (my friend is a hiphop/r&b junkie and at the time i was into a lot harder rock than what i listen to now) stumbled across the huge crowd by the outdoor stage. So we went over and were blown away. Not only did i become obsessed with their music, but that single performance completely opened me up to a different kind of music.

since then i went to see their show in montreal at the ukrainian federation and they were (to use a really lame word) "epic". honestly, one of the best shows i've ever seen.

I hate folksy shit like Sufjan Stevens and Bright Eyes, but Arcade Fire are different. They rocked with Funeral and they rock with Neon Bible. I think they're overhyped but they're still really good.
