Yeah, the Wailers played at my school a few years ago, they have like one original member, but it's a bit of a sham that they go around still using the name.

Interpol... they whore themselves out to any festival that comes calling. Coachella, Sasquatch and now Lolla... might as well sign up for bonarroo too.

Oh really? That makes me sad. Is Rita Marley involved with it at all? And do they play Bob Marley songs? It could turn out to be interesting because Stephen Marley is also playing...

They just confirmed that line up at billboard.com and lollapalooza.com. Obviously the original poster had inside info.

Daft Punk was on there as predicted in a post from a LONG time ago on here.

As for me, I think the line up is good but it's not enough for me to fly out to Chicago and visit the Harry Carey diner and the Married with Children Fountain.

It seems like a lot of the festivals this year have MANY bands in common.

Sadly the Wailers still play all the time. There is one original member who plays guitar still remaining. A good friend of mine got them to play his frat about 4 years ago, that's how they are doing.

They wanted some odd amount of money and a couple ounces of weed. He was happy though, he's one of those guys.

Do you work for Goldenvoice now? Or is this the royal we, as in you and your keyboard? If you've been going to Coachella since 99 you'd know that "we" aren't snobs and bands playing multiple festivals isn't a new thing, in fact many festivals plan themselves around one another to in effect share acts. And there's something called a concert tour, where one act plays several cities in the same country. Now your city is probably better than most so I suggest you stay there and when a band comes to play you remind them not to whore themselves out by playing other cities because after playing for you their talents would be wasted on the rest of the unbathed masses. Oh and stay out of Indio in late April/early May, please.

It seems like a lot of the festivals this year have MANY bands in common.

there are only so many bands around that are of the ability to play these festivals...with the number of bands nearing the 100 point at many there is bound to be quite a bit of overlap.

the lolla lineup is solid, but the number of coachella performers (past and present) make it seem less savory.
some key gets in patti smith and the wailers though.

There's a few names on there, not on Coachella's, that I would want to see. Overall, however, Coachella is a much more appealing festival for me.

If you start comparing festivals you will go bonkers. All of them have their strengths and weaknesses.

The Virgin Festival USA already has The Police, Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Velvet Revolver and Booka Shade. And they haven't even annouced their full line up.

And then you have global gathering that already has these bands confirmed..

The full lineup is as follows:

Faithless (LIVE) . Basement Jaxx (LIVE)
PAUL VAN DYK .CARL COX . ERICK MORILLO . ARMIN VAN BUUREN . SASHA . FERRY CORSTEN . PAUL OAKENFOLD . ROGER SANCHEZ . PETE TONG . JOHN DIGWEED . 2MANYDJS . ARMAND VAN HELDEN . ERIC PRYDZ . DAVID GUETTA . EDDIE HALLIWELL . NIC FANCIULLI+JAMES ZABIELA . ABOVE & BEYOND . SANDER KLEINENBERG . SPECIAL LIVE APPEARANCE - CALVIN HARRIS

JUDGE JULES . SVEN VATH . EROL ALKAN . STEVE LAWLER . PENDULUM DJ SET & MC VERSE . STEVE ANGELLO & SEBASTIAN INGROSSO . DANNY HOWELLS . FEDDE LE GRAND . BOOKASHADE (LIVE) . THE SHAPESHIFTERS . ANNIE MAC . YODA (AV EXPERIENCE) . PLUMP DJS . D RAMIREZ . FRANCOIS K . LISA LASHES . TIDY BOYS . ANDY C . GOLDIE . SCRATCH PERVERTS . STANTON WARRIORS . SANDER VAN DOORN . KLAXONS (DJ SET) . NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB (LIVE) . YOJI BIOMEHANIKA . TOM STEPHAN . ADAM FREELAND . TANIA VULCANO . TOM NOVY . SWITCH . CHRIS LAKE . MASON . TROPHY TWINS . PROTEUS . MARKY . BODYROX . DAVE PEARCE . GROOVERIDER . FABIO . MARK KNIGHT . EVIL NINE . THE GLIMMERS . BK (LIVE) . ROB TISSERA . SECOND SUN (LIVE) . MARTIJN TEN VELDEN . MARKUS SCHULZ . MARCEL WOODS . CLIVE HENRY . HOT CHIP (DJ SET) . TOUCHE . BOYS NOIZE . HIXXY & MC STORM . LAIDBACK LUKE . JIMMY VAN M . FRICTION . ALI B . THE NEXTMEN & MC WREC . ANNE SAVAGE . AMBER D . SOS (DEMI, DESYN MASIELLO, OMID 16B) . CIRILLO . ZOMBIE DISCO SQUAD . DOES IT OFFEND YOU, YEAH! (LIVE) . FUNKAGENDA. MICKY SLIM . PAUL THOMAS . MARK ETESON . EDISON FACTOR (LIVE) . ANDY WHITBY . ALEX KIDD . MARK H . JESSE GARCIA . TC & DISTORTED MINDS (LIVE) . MAMPI SWIFT . DJ FU & JUNGLE DRUMMER (LIVE) . ZINC . BRYAN GEE . NICKY BLACKMARKET . BAN BAN . GARRY K . RITON . KASKADE . MARDEL . SIMON HAWES . KISSY SELL OUT . TECHNIKAL . PAUL KERSHAW . MARK H . SOSSA . REBEKAH . STREETLIFE DJS . JANETTE SLACK . WILL BAILEY . DUNCAN MURRAY . VICARIOUS BLISS . STEED LORD . KRIS BONES . CHLOE HARRIS . DAN GREENPEACE . PETE JORDAN . NEIL QUIGLEY + MORE TBA

And then of course we still don't know the line ups for Austin City Limits or Glastonbury...

So no matter what you are bound to wish a band from another festival was playing the festival you were going to...so the only answer is to either travel and spend a lot or just be happy with where you are going!

Dude Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza all have like 75% of the same bands with different headliners.

Fuck that shit man get some original acts.

04-12-2007, 10:50 PM
I agree Nate.......But still a sweet lineup..

andrewz
04-13-2007, 05:27 AM
It's more like 25% overlap. Which makes sense, since unless you're getting paid some extravagant sum to reunite, the reason you're likely to be playing a festival is because you're currently touring in support of a new album. I would imagine that with fifty bands still unannounced for Lolla, that somewhere in there is another major add.

Bands playing both Coachella and Lollapalooza:
Interpol, the Roots, Kings of Leon, Lupe Fiasco, Amy Winehouse, LCD Soundsystem, Jack's Mannequin, Stephen Marley, Blonde Redhead, Sparklehorse, !!!, Peter Bjorn & John, Silversun Pickups, CSS, the Rapture, Roky Erickson & the Explosives, Tapes 'n Tapes, the Cribs, the Fratellis, Tokyo Police Club, Annuals, Fields, Electric Six, and fucking Satellite Party.

Quite a few great bands, If I have the money I will be going. But, most of these bands I will see either at Coachella or here in Denver (Daft Punk!!).
So, it isn't a really big draw for me.
