Just caught Justice at their Toronto show, & they were unreal. I saw them earlier in the fall in Montreal and from that time alone they've gotten much better at mashing up their sound and bringing a heavier and faster beat that kept the crowd D.A.N.C.I.N.G all night. Can't wait to see them again in LA

Sonic - Yes, their set is also different too. I was at HARD NYE, and compared to the youtubes i've seen from this tour its vastly different. All their songs are remixed a lot dirtier, their mixes sound MUCH better, and overall it should be dope.

About 90% all brand new mixes and sounds...I 100% loved it, alot better than the October show... the audience werent quite as into it...but they were loud when it counted... the guys did 2 encores and came into the audience, and I think were geniunly impressed by Vancouver...as always. The lighting was excellent and the set was put together really well. The only problem was Genesis wasnt loud enough to begin the set with. Fuckin, hell of a time!

I swear I met jackstraw last night............ after Justice we went to the after party and as soon as we got out of the cab we saw how ridiculously long the line was and were over it. So another cab pulls up to drop people off and this guy and girl are getting in to leave. I ask if we can split the cab and they agree. Then on the way home I ask if they went to Justice. And the guy starts going on and on about how Justice sucks and he is more into minimalist beats and starts throwing names out of all these obscure people. And I was thinking "yeah ok whatever dude". And hes trying to tell me about how its real electronic music and shit. The guy was a total tool. (Not to say that jackstraw is a tool)

I want to get a boot before Sunday because I finally got my house-making buddy Voodoo to agree to start listening to my advice in the wake of him getting fucked over bad at the WMC. After months of wanting to fucking fight him sometimes because he was just refusing to try to hear me out on the basic principle that if he's trying to "sell out" in the short term--just get a little cash and enough recognition to buy better equipment, maybe quit his job--and thinks the way to go is with bullshit dancey slightly gay house tracks, well simple logic would dictate that Justice, who were the biggest story in EDM of the past year via an album of bullshit, dancey, slightly gay house music... well, they should at least be analyzed.
But now he's ready to entertain my bullshit, so we're gonna listen to a selection of various artists and try to identify as many possibly exploitable gimmicks (e.g. Justice making a rock/pop album of electronic music) for hours, discuss how he can implement my philosophy of musical genius being nothing more than "stealing" elements of artists that came before you.
I think this is particularly true in EDM--since we all know my benchmark for the whole genre is Underworld (Voodoo's too--they got him into electronic and he played Second Toughest for me the very first time I rolled) and they're kinda a perfect example. The thing that took this whole scene to that other level of the rave years was that new wave of artists who realized the way to take a big leap forward was not sticking to a genre.
Hopefully he'll get into it and we'll end up with a concept for how his shit will sound for the next six tracks or so. "Concept" requiring (a) specific notes for which gimmicks/styles/sounds will be getting jacked and/or imitated, (b) being sure if only through imagination that there are enough slightly varied combinations of the gimmicks to make the songs sound different but album consistent, and (c) how these gimmicks make sense as choices for the overall concept he'll make by adding his layers. Like how Justice did with Human After All, far as I'm concerned.
fatbastard
03-29-2008, 10:47 AM
If Voodoo is not open enough to understand that music progresses and that new music is founded on old and or current aesthetics, then he'll be playing his little beat box beats on the 3rd street promenade sooner than later.
Innovators are far and in between; not to imply that music from innovators are any better that everyone. Innovators also learn from themselves to move their music into different directions. Just because people rave about Justice does not mean that they are the next big-thing musically. They are part of a genre that has evolved over the past few years. I would have been surprised if someone told me 20 years ago that I would be attending a “concert” with 2 guys on stage playing music from CDs. I would not have been surprised however if someone had said that there was a bass player, drummer, singer, and a turntablist. If you listened to music then, you heard it coming. The same goes for what is begin created now.
Artists have an arsenal of technology nowadays to choose from when creating music. Thanks to Apple, who reinvented the business model on how consumers share and store music, artists can carry thousands of songs in the palm of their hand. The question is, “what will the next Justice be doing to entertain us?” If Voodoo wants to make and money or recognition in the music industry and the world, he should start working on answering that question.
Finally, 2 days until the Mayan here in LA.

Openers are generally picked such that they'll relate to the fans that are showing up for the headliner. The promoters know you're all hipsters. Just saying.
So just me, or have their confidence really shot through the roof. They really owned it on stage, and to me looked a lot more comfortable than any other times previously.
ya. it's cuz they're not fucking up on the CDJs anymore. They can afford to jump around when all they're doing is staring at a play cursor scroll across their laptop and twist a knob every once in a while.
and btw, I love this pic you posted.

I did not, however, enjoy having my big toe nearly broken. It's huge and swollen right now. I also did not enjoy running into the guy who had the bloody dude in a headlock after the show, right as I was explaining to someone "Yeah, this dude had him in a headlock!" Equally un-fun was being molested on all sides by freaking couples and big fat headbanging Mexican/Samoan guys, and getting punched in the face by a crowd surfer.

The relationship ed banger has "built" with GV? It's been less than a fucking year since most of you ever heard of Justice. GV is booking the "ed banger crew" because you gits wont shut up about them. There are probably folks in GV who are fans of better music but they've got to do what sells.
All the credit in the world to those douches. They sell it well and milk it for all it's worth. Although sometimes they oversell themselves (i.e. MSG).

Even though it was originally there then moved to the thratre at MSG I can agree with you on it. They need to stop though, and go hide and work on new material then get another live show set up. They didnt have to do this tour, if all they did in the U.s. was like Ultra and Coachella and maybe some other things, it wouldnt be so bad. But Busy P knows what up, so why not.

lol, what a fucktard. The first rule of fashion is that once your shit starts getting knocked off (and those sunglasses have been getting knocked off like crazy for months now), it doesn't matter whether yours is the real deal or not, they might as well be fake. He's an idiot for feeling superior wasting $200 on some trendy pair of sunglasses that he's only going to wear a handful of times, when he could've gotten them for $20 and not wasted his trust fund $$$. Also, Paris? Those sunnies are fucking Jeremy Scott, he could've gotten them in Beverly Hills.
I hate kids like that. Same with everyone wearing Ray Bans these days (isn't that trend over by now?) and somehow feeling superior because they're wearing the same exact sunglasses as everyone else in the same exact design, except theirs say Ray Ban on them in tiny letters.

The Dj Set was pretty awesome, it should me they could do more stuff than just the crunchy electro sound. Hers a vid i took. But overall they could have fine tuned the set a lil more

Jesus, they really need to start making these shows 21+, too many fucking kids.
MSTRKRFT at the Fonda earlier this month was RIDICULOUS. There were maybe 10 people over 21 (we were 5 of them)...
It was sort of depressing, all these 13 year olds (we actually asked their age) were rolling face everywhere.
I'm all for drug use, but this was sad...
EDIT: definitely much different crowd from the other MSTRKRFT show i saw in vegas during vegoose. that shit was straight sick.

I KNOW those glasses suck ass. I got them free on a cruise this weekend and thought they were just retarded enough to rock, but they were horrible to look out of. What can i say? I love gimmicks while rolling.
I did however see a kid there with some white ones on, jokingly said "nice shades," and he told me he "paid $200, they're real, and from Paris."
"God, that is fucking horrible. Enjoy the show."
And dude, it's impossible to hate on any Daft Punk shirt...take that fucking shit back.

At the last Justice show in Vancouver in October, there was a huge line way before doors opened. This time, there was barely a line at all. Which I found weird... considering the last show didn't sell out until about a month before hand. And this show, sold out almost instantly.

yea, going early to get a ticket is understandable. going early just to wait in line all day so you can be the first person inside is just sad. there are way more things id rather do before a show than sit in line for hours.

Unless its Radiohead, or Daft Punk for that matter. You cant slam everyone who waits in line early for something.

I typically only skip openers if I need to drink before the actual show (a very economical approach), I was unable to get off of work early, or I have no interest in seeing the opener. I almost never wait in line all day to be upfront for a GA show, fucking useless.

Back to this topic for a bit: I just went back and reread Busy P's initial post (on the Ed Banger Lover and Haters...thread), and noticed that it will be a new set. I don't see why he would post this knowing damn well their myspace tour would be taking place.
Do you think it will be even different from their current tour? It would seem that a lot of people (via youtube, being there, etc) would already be familiar with this.
1) Is there another level they can take it?
2) Even more new material that they havent incorporated into their current set?
3) MOST IMPORTANTLY: A LIVE set...?
Do it.

I dont think they need to prove anything in regards to DP, thats a stupid way to look at it. They hppefulyl have a different stage set up and throw in some other things with what has been done on the myspace tour and it shoudl be great. And I've been told a million times but always forget: Live is when it's improv right? Like the clips where I've seen them mix House of Pain- Jump into Daft - Da Funk? And dj is when they have a pre-determined set of only their own tracks?

Actually, you have it exactly backwards. "Live" is considered the pre-determined set of their own tracks, mildly reworked on the spot here and there (They use Ableton to do such a thing). DJ sets are when they, well DJ, playing all kinds of stuff, and yeah, mix one song into another like you said.
I'm almost positive street scene will be live.

I think some of their earlier remixes are pretty good but yeah, the later ones have been lacking, especially the MGMT one. I think that one kinda blows. But don't worry, according to them they're done with remixes.
