was it just me or were there a shit load of kids this year? I counted at least 10 that appeared to be under 5.
There was an adorable little girl dancing crazy and playing with a big plastic ball at the drum and bass dome. she seemed to be having a great time. I tried to get a picture but nothing turned out too well.

I saw several kids/babies in strollers on Friday. Those parents must be dedicated music fans.
Oh, and even younger, I also saw a coulpe pregnant women too. I'm sure they were pregnant, not fat.

There was one little girl before Arcade Fire almost right in the front, I didnt see her until one big guy put her on his shoulders and everyone thought she was gonna pass out but she kept saying that she was alright and only wanted to see the show. She ended being pulled out by a security guard, and nobody had idea where was her mom.

Him and his dad were supposely in the front. The little kid was crowd surf to the back to get out. Seriously crowd surfing was probably the best way to get out of the rage pits lol. Fuck those people trying to jump over the gates

I thought it was just me, but I guess not. There were a whole lot of strollers around, and babies and toddlers. The mayor of the town came on stage to introduce Ozomatli, and he had his lil' boy on his shoulders.

yes, there were way too many kids there. people should not be bringing their little kids to this. im all for introducing your kids to good music, but bringing your 8 year old into the dance tent with a bunch of drugged out people is just bad parenting. same with taking your kid into the front for rage. thats the dumbest fuckin thing ive ever heard. some grown men cant even handle that, let alone kids. if you are gonna take your kid, keep them in the mellow areas of the concert, not the drug areas or mosh areas. they should change coachella to 18 & up, since some parents are obviously not responsible enough to figure this out for themselves.

most fucked up thing i saw was a couple with a 2 WEEK OLD baby on saturday. granted they were backstage at the outdoor stage, but seriously, come on...no 2 week old baby needs to be out in that heat and dusty air. his umbilical cord still hadn't fallen off for god's sake!

i saw at least 5 different elementary school aged children in Rage shirts on Sunday. Who's gonna be the coolest kid in school on Monday? That kid. (provided s/he lives till Monday).
I also saw quite a few extremely whored-out 12-15 yr old girls, some with their equally whored out mothers, some just with their whorey friends. Not so cool.

kids are cool, but BABIES!?!?! I saw one who was only a few months old! That kid is going to be hard of hearing.... my bro was in front for rage and said there was a guy with a 4 or 5 year old girl on his shoulders. Crazy!

Kids are okay if they have hearing protection, and have plenty of food & fluids. The stroller thing was kinda sad, though. The parents were too cheap to hire baby-sitters.

I saw at least 2-3 kids under the age of 10 in that one tent where everybody was smoking weed. The one where you had to go through that tunnel that got smaller and smaller to get in. There was a little girl (probably about 8) who had just come into the tent just as a guy with coke all over his face was leaving and she was staring at him, made me feel very strange...
I could understand a parent with a kid mistaking the tent for a fun place to let the kid run into with the tunnel and all, but one of the Mothers was in there with her young son and wasn't even paying attention to him as he ran about watching everybody take hits of weed and blow it in his direction.

There was a kid in front of me for Pharoahe Monch. His parents seemed to be explaining to him why everyone was chanting "Fuck you" or "Motherfucker" (something like that) per Pharoahe's request.

I stood way way back watching the RHCP and there was this little kid on his dad's shoulders. He had a RHCP 2006 tour t-shirt on, earphones for protection and was 'throwing horns' (as my friend Phil said) and air guitaring. We all took pictures of him. He was awesome.

I hope all of the parents of these little kids made their children wear ear plugs. At a very young age, a person's ears may be overly sensitive to loud noises.

i saw a pregonant lady in a wheelchair in the dance tent. i saw a family with like 4 kids from like 5-11 year olds glow sticks in hand dancing to Happy Mondays and singing along! (very cool)
cute little boy that actually i think may be the same little boy in the picture above with huge headphone like things (picture like the headphones djs wear but the ones with no sound used to protect your ears) during Bjork towards the front on his dads shoulders.

We have always seen a ton of kids each year, though the range in age really progressed this year! We attend Coachella every year since year 2-- and this year we have a 6 mos old. I went when I was pregnant and we did not want to miss it this year. So we bought the ear phones for noise protection, stayed inside until 5:00 ish and was careful of the dust. He did great and we enjoyed ourselves. I must say though New Order baby 2004 did rock!!
See ya next year!

I have a beautiful 2 year old little girl named, Izzy Gunz. She fucking rocks and she LOVES music. I would love to bring her to Coachella, but I'm not sure I'M ready for it. Coachella is my haven. If I had my daughter, I'd have to sneak away to drink or smoke pot. My freedom would be hampered. I know it's selfish, but as a mother sometimes you have to be. I will definitely bring her eventually, but I think I'll wait until she's more independent.

I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I will live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity

I don't doubt that...I live in pacifica, ca and we have 5 elementary schools in our district...3 out of the 5 are by lottery and waiting list entry only...2 of the 5 you must volunteer/pay$150/mo for public school
I have 2 boys my youngest won a slot by lottery into the top school my oldest has been in one of the lesser of the 5 schools...the kids are monsters, strung out on video games, rap and I can't even believe how disrespectful they are to the teachers...my kid has been harrassed by these kids for 3 years and last week we got the call that a spot has opened up for him in the school my youngest attends...he's happy excelling and now plays with kids he knows from the beach and the skatepark...
It's a world of difference!!!
Kids that age don't have any business listening to hard core music...our children should remain innocent to a degree....life will influence them plenty when they get to be teenagers!!!

Wow, wasn't expecting to get in a discussion about the public school system, but what better place than the "kids at coachella" thread.
The issue you address SFChrissy has become a serious problem. I teach at a public school in Newport Beach, CA. It is astonishing how disrespectful the students have become and how little regard they have for authority. No that's not all of them of course. This is my 10th year teaching. The change that has occurred is telling. Unfortunately the students who are here to learn and listen struggle with me, because I spend soooo much time dealing with tedious discipline. It wasn't like that before. I can't quite put my finger on why. There are so many possibilities - lack of parenting, no reading at home, little family interaction, too much tv/video games/computers, or is it that damn MTV.
I love my job. I love teaching preteens. But, something needs to change. Unfortunately, those in power fear change.

I know what your saying...My kid was totally beat up in kindergarten by three kinders that pulled him under a slide and proceeded to beat him up. The principal did not address the issue. Another kid pushed him so hard his knee sweeled and had to have fluid drained from his knee, another kid pantsed him...My boy qualified for the skateboard olympics and a classmate jacked him for his lunch money and his metal...
At his old school he was punked, his new school he gets mad love and respect...he walks into the skatepark and kidz twice his age get out of his way cause he can shred harder then they can and he's only 8.
Stay strong Algunz...you have a tough job but are a hero to someone out there!!!

i think it was cool to see people there with their kids- kind of a nice thing to see people teaching another generation of kids about music in a fun way :)
also, my logic is that if these people lived close enough to take their kids to the festival, then they probably live in the heat, so it isn't too rough on 'em.
