Coachella 2007 + Stagecoach 2007 = Austin City Limits 2007!

I still really want to go to this tho. I can't really get enough of a lot of these bands. Hmmmm Austin road trip.

luckyface
05-09-2007, 11:15 PM
Who knows? Maybe a lot of them will be at Street Scene and then you won't have to make the long road trip.

tessalasset
05-09-2007, 11:18 PM
Sick I'd rather make the long road trip than have to deal with the rest of the crap at Street Scene. Altho it is at the Del Mar Fairground this year...

Wow, just bought my ticket. Bigger problem - flying or driving and hotel?

Where do you live?

Most hotel rates right now are over $130/night, close to Zilker Park. I'll probably be staying at the Courtyard Marriot Austin South, located about 7 miles away from Zilker Park. For $99/night, and as I am going in my car I don't think it is a bad deal. If you fly over there and don't have a car, we can work something out to give you a ride to the place.

idrive1life
05-10-2007, 01:48 AM
I'm flying - it will be almost a day drive one way from Florida. I can't take extra vacation and I can't be so tired and have no energy for the shows.

Cool. Marriott - that's not bad. I'll check it out (it's still $99/night). Yeah, maybe we can carpool. But there's no parking in the Zilker Park. We have to take a shuttle somewhere (guess park it there) ... how would I go to the hotel from the airport (without a car - how far it is from AUS? and if they have free shuttle service from AUS ... it's going to be a long day for me tomorrow, finalizing this ... don't have much sleep today after a really busy day today and seeing the ACL lineup ... good thing I got online access and found this out today)? ... blah blah ... ;)

Now, I might as well stay with my friend's house in NYC for my NY trip in August to save some money and spend it in Austin. :D

Edit # 100: It is very close to the airport with free parking and shuttle service from/to airport.

I wish there's a hotel walking distance to Zilker Park like the one I have for Lollapalooza.

Edit # 1,111 : Okay, I already reserved a room in that hotel. Per ACL message board, it sounds like it is very popular for those who are going to ACL (ha ha ACL Campsite by Marriott). Yeah, I'm okay with sharing it (with you orbit or any nice people here in the board who are also going) and save some money. I'm also in for the carpool idea.

Are you going to Lolla also? I had booked the Whitehall in Chicago and although I got a good deal, it is still pretty expensive for me. Besides the plane tickets which are not that cheap either, right now I'm seriously thinking in cancelling Lolla and keep going to ACL. Some of the main acts I wanted to see at Lolla such as Daft Punk, Muse, MMJ, LCD, Blonde Redhead will be also in ACL and besides I'll see Daft Punk @ Red Rocks. Although CSS, Iggy, the Spree, Tokyo Police Club and Rapture aren't in both, I'm not sure if throw out $900 just to see the last ones.

So which do I go to - this or Lolla? Pretty much everything about Lolla would be cheaper for me... Except Austin is, well, Austin. And they have after-festival shows.

bartelby
05-10-2007, 06:03 AM
grrrrr - I'd be in Austin in a second if it wasn't so bloody far away...at least I can still drive to Lolla

if any of you are dumping your hotels in Chicago, PM me as I might be interested in taking it over....

cajun/zydeco band from Louisiana. I used to see them a lot in the late 80s, I had no idea they were still around.

idrive1life
05-10-2007, 02:38 PM
^Yup. (Jeff, since you skipped/missed Coachella ... go to both ... ahhh OR ... toss a coin ;))

Yes, I'm definitely also going to Lollapalooza AND also would like to save some money (or not spend too much money over there since I'm also flying to NYC next day after that. ;)).

Yeah I was gonna say. It's not entirely true but it's funny how sometimes in a certain year lots of the same acts will play at a few of the big festivals. Entire festivals practically migrate on to the next one. They do the rounds yo...

I sat next to their agent on the plane back from Coachella; and he said the only festival they're playing this year is Lollapalooza.

A side note: He had an all access sticker on his head phone case for Coachella. Kings of Leon was another band he represents. The guy was really cool and gave me his card. He said he goes to all the major festivals -kind of has to, especially when the bands/artists he reps are playing.

MMJ is listed on the ACL website.

That ACL lineup is ridiculous...QOTSA, White Stripes, and Arcade Fire!!
For my tastes, I'd even say this lineup is better than Coachella this year.
Street Scene really needs to release their lineup so I can start deciding which fest I want to go to (assuming I can afford either one, plus get the time off). I'm hoping Street Scene's lineup is somewhat similar since I love San Diego and it would be far more convenient.

MMJ is listed on the ACL website.

Maybe they don't consider ACL a festival (in the traditional sense-one place/not city, etc...); or they decided to add it after I talked with him.

I doubt that since it's the Austin City Limits music Festival.

And I would go to ACL way before that crappy thing they call Street Scene any day...
