That album is amazing. Wolf Parade is amazing.
How much does Spencer do in Frog Eyes? Is he part of the touring band? They just played here and I didn't realize he had anything to do with that band or I would've gone just to see.

he plays keyboards and helps with songwriting, although I don't think he is touring with them currently. However, I'm not certain of this, as I missed their show up here.

Swan Lake album about to drop, new Sunset by summer, and working on Wolf Parade songs. I am in awe. I am also sad I do not seem him more often :(

Can we just make a Casey Mercer thread? I've never really cared that much for Krug. I enjoy Sunset Rubdown but I've never really paid attention to Wolf Parade. I find them a bit uninteresting for whatever peculiar reason.
Casey and Spencer are pretty similar songwriters, at least on the surface, I think everyone could agree with that. But can someone explain to me Frog Eyes is one of my favorite bands of the last ten years and yet I barely give Wolf Parade the time of day? I feel like I'm just missing something...

I've come around to Sunset Rubdown. I think Wolf Parade's a whole lot more accessible, and I still think I'll Believe In Anything is one of the best fucking songs ever, but Wolf Parade's show wasn't as awesome as I wanted it to be.
Sunset Rubdown rocked my googly-eyed novelty socks though. And Spencer Krug is cute as an awesome button.

Apologies to the Queen Mary was amazing. How anyone doesn't like that disc, I dunno..
What Spencer does with Sunset Rubdown is next level brilliant. Spencer in the Gobi, in a few months, would probably beat anything else that would play before 8PM. -edit- For me that is..

Spencer's keyboard was not working. Something was up with the mixer or the cord. I just remember looking at him fiddle with the buttons and knobs, and he would try playing it, but no sound would come out. I think it was a problem at the mixer's end, because Spencer looked pretty helpless and he was just sitting down, drinking a beer. He did look a little mad. Not as mad as Andrew Bird was when he was getting electrocuted by the microphone; but he looked annoyed.

I saw Frog Eyes last June play in a little cafe hear in San Diego with about 15 or 20 other people, probably the all-time most intimate concert I've ever experienced... for a huge fan like me, it was really amazing, I will always remember that night.
But anyway...
This song is just fucking awesome and worthy of that whole album's purchase price in itself. I would see this live in a heartbeat. Unfortunately though, I struggle to find more like it. Someone needs to help me.

Well fine...
I think it's a solidly cracking album, definitely my favourite from Sunset Rubdown. Some great lyrics, and I think Krug is a bit smarter about reining in his impulse to yodel weirdly for no good reason during otherwise perfect songs, which has always been the one thing that bugged me about Sunset Rubdown.
I've been listening to it non-stop since I got hold of it, although I have my doubts I'll still have it on a loop in a few months time. Can't wait to see them again. I'm a lot more familiar with their stuff now, have a far better idea of what they're about than last time.
Idiot Heart is still by far and away the highlight of the disc, methinks, and here's a cracking version of it courtesy of Daytrotter. (and a dude called Mark. Thanks Mark. (http://adventurebythemonument.blogspot.com/2009/03/sunset-rubdown-announce-new-album.html))

I really love the new album, and I love it more and more with each listen. A few of my friends are unsure about the album so far even though they love the older albums, so I guess it's a bit less catchy? I think they weren't expecting something different...
Sunset Rubdown has been my favorite band since I saw them play at bottom of the hill in SF. I also love wolf parade and swan lake.... I enjoyed SR live a lot more than Wolf Parade even though WP was also amazing.... I will be seeing Spencer for the 5th (6th?) time next month yay!!!!!!
Also, I named my puppy after Spencer Krug two years ago lol. We wanted to name him after a favorite musician and that name seemed perfect for an adorable chocolate lab pup. :pulse

I was surprised at how much more I enjoyed Sunset Rubdown live than Wolf Parade. Wolf Parade's music always struck me as more immediate, better suited to a live crowd. So I was looking forward to see them more, but they weren't nearly as tight as SR were. They were good, they just weren't as mindblowing as I wanted.
Also, thread needs more pictures of Spencer Krug, and I will make no apologies for such weakness.

On the other hand, I maintain that neither Sunset Rubdown or Handsome Furs have a song to hand that's nearly as fierce as I'll Believe In Anything. And to be honest, I can't help feeling that both Messrs. Krug and Boeckner have been holding back their best stuff for their own respective projects.

Fact: You don't think you'll ever get stuck by lightning until you're actually struck by freaking lightning. Just ask Sunset Rubdown bassist/drummer Marc Nicol, who was hit by a big electric shock from the sky recently-- and he's got the burn mark to prove it (left).
According to a post on his label Jagjaguwar's website, Nicols describes the experience thusly: "My heart started back up after the electrical shock. I woke up feeling like I was suffocating and was delirious. Then I passed out for an hour, woke back up and saw the hair singed on my leg. Only then I knew."
