Possibly the most hilarious thing about this is that The Origin of Species is interesting as an historical document but, well, it's riddled with errors and nonsense. It's cool to see how natural selection was first presented in such a format but that belongs in a history of science class, nothing more.

Yeah, when I went over Darwin's writing for school, it was in a class about how anthropology has changed over time... or I guess you can say, how anthropology has evolved. Tons of scientific work (especially social sciences) have errors and nonsense. Some people actually did write racist-ish things that the Nazis would have loved. But if we keep them in the canon, it's usually because they started something that would be cleaned up later, with better understanding and stronger evidence. Like natural selection.

What the hell? The Origin of Species is as surprisingly well-written, succinct description of natural selection. EVERYONE should read it. Consider that it was written before genetics, before the discovery of DNA, and still manages to be more or less correct. It completely deserves its pedestal. All scientific works contain errors, but what "nonsense" do you speak of? Use examples.

Oh fucking hell, why did they mention my campus specifically. Cal students fought very hard in the 60's so that the socially conservative Chancellor Clark Kerr couldn't muffle the expression of free speech on school property. Regrettably, that turned out to be a double edged sword. I have to walk through these religious zealots at Sproul everyday, who try and pick fights with students in passing about personal faith and the peripheral issues of abortion, sexual orientation and contraceptives.

I guess I'll throw away as many as I can. James Cameron needs to have a lobotomy.



Maybe he should get an actual degree from a credited university before he spreads his ill-informed witch hunt against the straw man Darwin who Christian s claimed embraced religion at the end of his life (which he did not).

It's funny that a theory of unprecedented equality (that all human beings share a common ancestor) was utilized by white social darwinists and racialist thinkers to somehow "confirm" existing social/racial/gender stratifications and simultaneously create new ones.

Ehh... I guess I just consider that old news. And/or a side issue here.

Their focus is specifically targeting On The Origin of Species as if it were the holy book of evolution... so that gets the focus of my ridicule.


But don't get me wrong; the idea that natural selection and/or evolution necessarily lead to Nazism or racism is absurd as well.
