For about an hour earlier today, there was a video on vimeo that since vanished. Set to Keep the Car Running, it was a lively little montage of 2007 stuff I've never seen before, backstage larking around at Randall's Island, the band doing sightseeing touristy stuff in the Grand Canyon, messing around with LCD Soundsystem in a golf cart, Win and Régine having a laugh in a dressing room.
Was fun. I hope it resurfaces.

Somebody did, but was politely asked not to distribute it by the original uploader.

WTF? They were in the Grand Canyon but didn't play an AZ show?
I'm very upset. |

I'm fairly sure it was somebody that hung out with them for a bit, rather than one of the band's own. I only saw a part of it - once - but it looked to my eye like it had been tweaked to look like Miroir Noir, rather than actually part of that footage.
Nothing huge like, but hey, it's nice to have something to while away the long winter.

Yeah, a few of us on here did. It was a hoot. I was going to go see them before that in Silverlake, but didn't try to buy tickets until the day before because I didn't think that there was a chance in hell that it could sell out. I remember that there were still tickets available a few days prior, too.

If there's one instrument I cannot stand, it's the harpsichord. Of all the instruments ever I've heard, there's none I despise so much and so fiercely as the damned harpsichord. I can't abide it. It makes me want to jam rocks in my ears, or would, but for the fact that I'm saving up all my rocks to smash some fucking harpsichords.
Apparently the next album has some harpsichord.

I'm not familiar enough with it to tell you how much I hate all the harpsichord in it.
Anyhoo, recording from the Seattle Orchestra's Funeral concert last night. It's nice. But it does kind of highlight how important Win Butler's voice is to the whole deal, particularly that song. I'll never take his demented shrieky warbling for granted again.

As I understand it, they had a few different vocalists that they rotated between songs. But love them or hate them, there's just nothing quite like Win or Régine's vocals.
It does sound great though, I'm told it was brilliant. Would have been a cool night, although the idea of hearing Arcade Fire songs in such a civilised format is incongruous to me.

Yeah, male vocalist for this one is way too Bono. Female vocalist is actually pretty good. They really hurled themselves at it too, but for an orchestra, they sound a wee bit too much like a brass band.

Gemma, hop in the teleportation device. The husband cannot come to the Mountain Goats/Final Fantasy show tonight. Get to Texas NOW!
I wish.

What I'm getting at in an extremely nerdy, jargon-laden and round-about way is that harpsicord sounds slightly less awful on CD. |

I'll give the damned harpsichord a chance then. But only 'cause you're vouching for it.

Hey, this thread seems like the best place to ask. Everything okay for you on the Emerald isle? I understand someone there invoked the wrath of Neptune today.

The flooding, right? Aw bless. My mam and dad live on high ground and central Dublin is fairly okay. The streets are just waterloggged rather than properly flooded. It's a rainy pain in the arse, but I'm alright.
I don't know what we did to Neptune, collectively, but the fucker can keep a grudge like you wouldn't believe.

Gemma, Final Fantasy was AMAAAAAAZZZZING last night. #2 in my best shows of the year (nothing will top Sufjan Stevens @ ATP NY). Owen was in a great mood & seemed to be thankful for the respectful and appreciative audience. I got all teary-eyed during "The Dream Of Win & Regine". And I wished you were there.

He did. No setlist with the sound guys, so I wasn't able to get one. But he made a point of saying that he'd been playing all new stuff, so now he was going to play some old stuff so the devoted fans didn't think he was abandoning them.

Aw, sweet. What are Mountain Goats like? Did you cajole your other half into tagging along, in the end?
To the gig review thread with you, young one.

I'm terrible at reviewing shows except in general terms. LOVED Mountain Goats. I have never seen anyone as excited to be playing a show as John Darnielle was (he actually reminded me of Craig Finn of The Hold Steady in that regard). Definitely going to delve further into the MG catalog based on the show. And isn't that really the point of live shows?
I was flying solo last night. I was glad, though...Andy has to be up early Friday mornings, so I wouldn't have been able to stay for the whole show if he had been with me. My FF shirt has "Final Fantasy" printed on the inside beneath the tag. I love little details like that.
