Just paint it black. Your tent will be nice and dark all day long.

im gonna try the canopy over the tent this year, a little more stuff to carry but would be worth it. im gonna also try to build a a/c mist setup with dry ice and a battery operated fan. if all goes well ill be sleepin in till 10.. or maybe the temps will be mild this year since its a couple weeks earlier.

I'm also trying the Canopy. Hopefully it works. But I'm open to any suggestions. I need more sleep in the morning

Canopy + Blanket. Just cover the east side of the canopy with a blanket.

Use a canopy, but don't put your tent directly under it, instead place it slightly west of the canopy so that when the sun rises, there will be more shade directly on your tent. Also, put a blanket on the East side of your canopy to maximize non-tent shade throughout your morning. I put a kiddie pool in the shade, it's nice.

West is toward where you get a late night burger, East is facing the festival in case you didn't know.

canopy + 2 layers of camo netting hanging down the sides. lets air move, but should provide excellent shade all day. or at least this is what i'm trying this year. it seems to be the best recommendation from burning man vets.

My "tent" last year was a canopy with sheets on all 4 sides. It gave us shade all day, and if you only tie the top of the blanket and let the rest hang, the breeze will flow in. You just lose major privacy/security points with it

Get a shade canopy and secure some additional light blocking fabric to the top - like the stuff that is used in blackout drapes. There is some stuff out there that is reflective on one side and white on the other, that's what I'm bringing this year. I had the canopy last year and it was good, but anything extra helps. I'm ditching the tent this year because it was stifling in the morning and just securing light weight fabric to the sides for air flow but with a little privacy while sleeping.

tarps.

Buy as many tarps as you can and also get some string. Any place that sells camping gear or canopy's will have tarps. Some tarps even come with string, but it is ideal to have extra.

Attach the tarps to neighbors tents, fences, trees, teepees, etc.. Providing shade for others at Coachella is like giving away free money on the streets in real life.

DISCLAIMER..depending on your tarping skills, you may have to move the position of the tarps as the sun moves.

yep. we had quite a few tarps in our area with lots of string, tape, ect. constantly had to keep repositioning, though. it worked like a charm, though. we had a great shaded area in the middle of all our tents that had room and shade for everyone.

Agreed. Party your way through the first morning, and bring earplugs to get to sleep before sunrise the next two. But hey, coachella is 2 weeks earlier this year and it might be cooler and easier to sleep in.

I hung heavy dark green fabric down two sides of the canopy last year. Worked pretty good,...kept things shady, but didn't turn it into a sweatbox like plastic sometimes can.

If you want to travel lightly, I'd recommend using the rain fly that comes with your tent.

Looks like everyone's already suggesting what I would have mentioned.

A canopy with some sort of screen to block out the sunrise on the east side in the morning.

I think it's hilarious how many different ways people are answering the question "how do I put something between me and the sun?"

Let it be let it be. Go to sleep around 4-5 am....wake up at 7am from the sun...2 or 3 hours of sleep is plenty, as long as you eat and drink properly.

Don't miss out...You have 361 other days to sleep in
