Default Re: Car Camping in 2010!

Was about to make a new thread for this. Not per person anymore, per SPACE now!

Quote:
New for 2010
10x30 Camping Spot $55 (this time we are selling spots, not per person and cars will be allowed to park within the purchased spot. Please see detailed information about car and tent camping below.)
RV Camp spot $250 (every RV in RV camping area needs and RV pass)

Available ONLINE only

ABOUT CAMPING

All camping areas are located on lush beautiful grass fields adjacent to the concert area. Camping opens on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at noon and will remain open continuously throughout the festival, closing on Monday, April 19, 2010, at noon. Please review the basic rules before ordering. More details will be posted in the coming months including how this is all going to work and what you can expect in the campgrounds so please check back when the new 2010 website has launched, no need to panic before then, we still have several months to go, chillax.

INTRODUCING CAR CAMPING! (10x30 General Camping)

If you’ve camped with us at Coachella before, you’re probably used to parking and lugging your gear. Now you can park your car right next to your tent. Also, for the first time all festival attendees will be able to go in & out of the concert venue during the show for the entire weekend!

Car camping spots are 10’x30’. Your car and as many people or tents you can cram into that spot (as long as it’s not against the rules) is fine with us.

Please note, car camping is limited. Every car entering the Car camping area must have (1) Car camping spot ticket to enter. In addition, everyone entering Car camping is required to have a festival ticket. You/your group must camp next to your car(s). For safety reasons, vehicles are not permitted to leave and re-enter this area. Once you drive in and set up, you’re there until the festival is over. However, if you need to leave early, please let security know, so they can help direct you out safely. Your car will NOT be admitted back in to the car camping area once it drives out. If you plan on leaving your car overnight at the venue, you must purchase a car camping pass. Each car camping pass automatically comes as a 10x30 space.

If your group is camping and driving more than one car to the festival, you must arrive together to be able to park & camp next to each other. People in your group arriving later can drive in and park wherever the next available car camping spot is and then either set up there or walk over to your area to join you. You are on your own to coordinate with each other.

ALL VEHICLES WILL BE THOROUGHLY SEARCHED UPON ENTRY.

ABOUT RV CAMPING

RV camping will be a designated area just for RVs. An RV is defined as a vehicle made for sleeping. (a truck with a mattress thrown in the back is not a vehicle made for sleeping). Each RV entering the RV camping area must have an RV camping spot ticket. Each person camping with you in the RV must have a festival ticket. (no vehicle ins/outs)

RV camping spots are 20x50. Your RV and however many people or whatever else will fit into your spot (as long as its not agains the rules) is fine with us.

ALL VEHICLES WILL BE THOROUGHLY SEARCHED UPON ENTRY.

ABOUT TENT ONLY CAMPING

NO SAVING SPOTS - Arrive together to camp together. NEW FOR 2010: 10x30 tent spots are what is being sold. Each CAMP SPOT is HUGE - a 10x30 (300 square feet!!) spot on a beautiful serene grassy area offering quiet private surroundings separate from Car and RV camping areas. All camping amenities included. You can visit any of the other RV or Car Camping areas too. You can cram as many people into your tent as will fit. Each camper must have a festival ticket. Want more space? Buy another spot. If you are driving a car to the event and camping overnight you must purchase a spot and camp in the car camping area. All cars staying overnight during the festival must be in a car camping spot.

ALL PEOPLE WILL BE THOROUGHLY SEARCHED UPON ENTRY
SOME BASIC RULES
Complete rules & FAQ's and way more details about onsite camping and how everything is going to work will be posted in the coming months so check back after the 2010 site launches and closer to the festival dates. You can also refer to the 2009 site for a rough idea though a lot of things will change for 2010.

* All campers MUST be 18 years of age or older & have a valid I.D or be accompanied by legal guardian. .. Sorry NO exceptions.
* All tickets no refunds or exchanges
* Festival is rain or shine
* Line up / set times subject to change
* Day parking is free
* All campers can visit all camping sites
* NO RV Hook ups

so stoked about this! although having each vehicle searched is going to make for a LONG freaking line if you arrive late in the day Thursday....but i'm really happy about not having to lug a freakingly heavy ice-chest all the way from the car to the campsite this year!

That's gonna save my group a ton of money since we won't have to buy a camping pass for each person. Also dig the in & outs now too.

This is so lame. You can't leave? What about when we need to go to Wal-Mart or want to get food? Or visit our friends at hotels? I loved the parking lot.

For sure not camping this year, then.

Well, with a group of, say 80, it's not that easy to have everyone arrive at the same time. Our camping spaces will be scattered around the campsite, not directly next to each other. The whole point of the camping groups to is be with a group of people.

Yeah, I'm not sure about this...if you have a car, you HAVE to car camp, so we're stuck there the entire time. WTF?

You can park in the general parking & walk your stuff into the camping area.

And pay extra money per day, right? Not worth it.

Also, read the line where it says if yr car is staying overnight, you need to car camp.

What are they trying to fucking crack down on? Liquor, I'm assuming.

I dunno, I think the benefits of car camping outweigh the disadvantages. Sure, not being able to drive anywhere all weekend kind of sucks, but you don't have to lug all your stuff from the parking lot to your campsite. Because it's right there. That's pretty cool.

Also, if you really want to go get a real breakfast or In'n'Out or whatever, you can always call a taxi. Or if you're lucky enough to know friends staying in a hotel, they could come pick you up. (I actually think a free shuttle to take campers to and from civilization would be a really great idea, but I seriously doubt that's going to happen.)

that's what they do at a lot of the camping festivals in australia where you park your car next to your tent, works quite well

It's hard for me to imagine them actually enforcing this rule. Couldn't you just have the first several people that arrive claim all the spots you need, one per person? Then everybody else can arrive later. What, are they gonna tag people to each spot they arrive to and let no one else in? I guess that'll be ironed out when we get more details but it seems like if THAT'S how it's gonna work, it's gonna be hard to enforce it.

I have car camped, it was amazing. TRUST IT. It works nicely, but yes, you have to coordinate, it will make the camping groups different for sure...

But yeah, it was an amazing experience at Phish, and I feel it would be very similar to the Roo and other festivals that have you car camp...

it says as many as you can fit into your spots.. so everyone in PAW will be camped around the early arrivers' cars.. later arriving members will have cars scattered about (not a bad idea, could come in handy later...), but there will still be a centered camping area..

it also sounds like anyone who comes without a car can camp for free.. either meet some friends with extra space (10x30 per every person with a car is a lot of extra space).. every dude with a blunt is gonna end up finding a cozy little spot for a small tent..

I know I am copying some of this from my FB status update, and I will mention it a few times coming up, as this is how it was done @ phish...

But your group meets together ahead of time, say we all set a rally point to be the Costco Parking Lot off the 111, and say we will go into the campgrounds at 4pm on thursday, so EVERYONE shows up at that spot, and then drives in together. Doing this means that if you can get 8-16, to say, 30 cars, whatever our number, we can basically all camp together as a huge group, with our cars, everything.

Then, we just make that be the central group location, and text message out that location to everyone else, and they park their cars and set up their little mini camps, and then meet up at the main site!!

Triple Bonus points if one of us ponies up the cash for an RV or Two.

Lol, and the same as the endless drum circles...

But remember, you are next to your car, so you can climb into your backseat and fall asleep with the windows and doors closed if you need your peace and quiet...
