The 2007 festival series included performances by a reunited Rage Against the Machine, the Wu Tang Clan, Public Enemy celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band and many more. The tradition of top names and memorable performances continues in 2008 as the line-up and routing for this year's ROCK THE BELL 2008 INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SERIES POWERED BY SANDISK--kicking off July 19 in Chicago--was announced today during a press conference in Claremont, CA by Chang Weisberg of Guerilla Union and hip-hop all-stars A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Raekwon, Murs, and Supernatural who are all confirmed on this summer's bill. Featuring performances by A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Rakim, Method Man & Redman, Raekwon & Ghostface (Cuban Linx), Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Murs and Kidz In The Hall, the ROCK THE BELLS 2008 INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SERIES POWERED BY SANDISK once again is marked by the leading hip-hop line-up seen on one bill this year. This year will be highlighted with an unexpected reunion of The Pharcyde. But it does not stop there, as fans will also see performances by the brightest names in the emerging electro-hip hop scene including Spank Rock, Santogold, Kid Sister, Wale, Flosstradamus, Jay Electronica and The Cool Kids with hosts B-Real of Cypress Hill and the world renowned Supernatural. After its July 19 launch, ROCK THE BELLS 2008 INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SERIES POWERED BY SANDISK will hit nine more North American cities on seven consecutive weekends, wrapping up in Vancouver at the end of August. 2008 also marks the first year that ROCK THE BELLS will go global with four stops in Europe and one in Japan. Highlights of the series include first time dates in Toronto, Vancouver and Philadelphia, plus a return to the Glen Helen Pavilion in San Bernardino, CA where last year's show sold out with a capacity crowd of 45,000 people. Pre-sale tickets will be available May 14th - 16th via www.guerillaunion.com, and then to the general public on May 17th. Exclusive LA pre-sale starts on May 7th-9th with on-sale to follow May 10th. Most of this year's headliners will be performing with new music as well; performers with albums coming out this year include Q-tip from A Tribe Called Quest with The Renaissance, Nas with Nigg*r, Mos Def with The Ecstactic, and Murs with his major-label debut Murs For President. Method Man & Redman return with Blackout 2, the follow-up disc to their 1999 platinum selling album Blackout!, and Ghostface Killah will join Wu Tang Clan bandmate Raekwon to perform songs from Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II, Raekwon’s highly anticipated follow up to the critically acclaimed 1995 release Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Join the Dirty Hands Caravan
JOIN "THE DIRTY HANDS CARAVAN"
A MOVEMENT DESIGNED TO
"INSPIRE INDIVIDUALS TO TAKE INDIVIDUAL ACTION"
The morning after the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA, a string of bio-diesel buses transporting up to 300 people will caravan 1800 miles in an effort designed to engage a new generation of activists. The Dirty Hands Caravan is the coming together of individuals who will be encouraged to get involved by building houses for the homeless, protesting the War in Iraq while supporting the needs of veterans and their families, caring for the sick or needy, cleaning up parks or neighborhoods across America, taking part in clean water initiatives for foreign lands or engaging in whatever way they feel compelled to help others. The caravan, which is the brainchild of Sean Penn, will make stops in numerous cities until it arrives at its final destination, New Orleans, where the spirit of Coachella will join the close of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. On Sunday, May 4th, members of The Dirty Hands Caravan will descend on New Orleans to help better the Big Easy through their good works.
Participants in the caravan will have their food, water, transportation and campground accommodations paid for in exchange for their service. As the bio-diesel buses make their way across U.S. cities, members of the caravan will be offered opportunities to volunteer on behalf of established local organizations. However, members of the caravan are free to choose whatever cause or do whatever good they feel inspired to do, whether it is officially organized or not. The goal of The Dirty Hands Caravan is to get people engaged and active in their world. Good works will be done, but the caravan's overall mission is to “encourage individuals to take individual actions.” To offer inspiration, the caravan will stop at campgrounds where individuals will have the chance to hear from musicians, activists, artists, filmmakers and guest speakers who will offer ideas on how to stand up for what you believe in and then effectively implement those ideas.
Those individuals seeking to join The Dirty Hands Caravan will need to fill out an application in advance. To request an application go to our temporary website http://thedirtyhandscaravan.ifanz.net. The official website www.thedirtyhandscaravan.com is coming soon. The buses will depart the Coachella Festival parking lot at Noon on Monday, April 28th. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and should plan on being away from their homes and families for at least ten days. Buses will depart New Orleans for the Coachella grounds at Midnight, May 5th and will return to Los Angeles by May 7th. Up to 300 people may be traveling on The Dirty Hands Caravan bio-diesel buses, but organizers hope many more will follow by any means they can, and encourage their friends and family to join them in New Orleans.

"COACHELLA EXPRESS" TRAIN

This year's COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL will feature a new and improved way for festival-goers to reach their destination.
Goldenvoice can now confirm details of the new venture with festival sponsor AMTRAK to create the "Coachella Express." This one-of-a kind train will transport campers from Los Angeles to the Empire Polo Field and back for this year's COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL set for Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. COACHELLA, Amtrak and the city of Indio are working together to create a temporary train platform in Indio; from there concert-goers will be transported via shuttle buses to and from the camping check-in area at the polo field and the temporary station.
"Coachella Express" is FREE of charge and is open to anyone with a camping & festival ticket. Reservations can ONLY be made at www.coachella.com and will be on a first-come, first-served basis effective immediately.
The train will depart Los Angeles' historic Union Station Thursday, April 24 at 1:30 PM and will return to Los Angeles, leaving Indio Monday, April 28 at 10:30 AM.
"We're always looking for ways to improve the Coachella weekend," says Paul Tollett of Goldenvoice. "And this collaboration with Amtrak and the city of Indio is one in an ongoing plan to make a fan's trip easier. This is a priority for us not only for Coachella but all our festivals."
The Amtrak collaboration will be one of many special promotions, events, partnerships that the company will implement in the six weeks leading up to Amtrak's recently announced first annual National Train Day (May 10, 2008). More than just a convenient way to travel, Amtrak is also energy efficient. Traveling by rail contributes less per passenger mile to greenhouse gas emissions than either cars or airplanes. According to U.S. Department of Energy data, Amtrak is 17 percent more efficient than domestic airline travel and 21 percent more efficient than auto travel on a per-passenger-mile basis. When combined with all modes of transportation, passenger railroads emit only 0.2 percent of the travel industry's total greenhouse gases.

The line-up for the 2008 COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL--Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27--was announced last night (Monday) at an event in Mexico City. Beyond the line-up announcement (see below), COACHELLA promoters detailed their plans to make tickets and travel packages directly available to music fans throughout Mexico.
“This is really a way for us to get closer to our fans throughout Latin America who have been supportive of Coachella for the past 10 years,” says Goldenvoice’s Paul Tollett.
